engine stand and lift

hey guys i am looking for suggestions on an engine stand and lift for my LS3. are the harbor freight ones decent enough? for the stand should i get 1000, 1250lb's? also and bolt kits or plates you guys recommend for lifting the motor?
Thanks

I would get the 2000# engine stand. I've used the 1000# and 1250# ones and when you try and move your motor around they feel like they're going to tip over. The 2000# ones are more money but better balanced and worth it.

Try Amazon.com, also centuryperformancecenter.com has a nice setup.

The only thing I have purchased from Pep Boys was my Engine Stand - 5 Wheels, Gusseted, Folds up when not in use. It has never felt like it was going to tip over.

Harbor Freight stand and hoist worked perfectly when I installed my iron block LQ9 into my 67. No point in spending big money if its not going to see much use. I would check your local Craigslist and see if anyone is selling one.

I have both, and i've used the cherry picker many times to pull a fully loaded 351W, and TKO600 out of my Torino.

The engine stands are wobbly as stated. I have two models, the cheaper one has had a 302 on it for 4 years, it is freaky to move around. The one with the cross bar out front is not too bad.

Both engine stands came with the engines.

The cherry picker I bought used from a guy that only got it for a quick R&R.

Bottom line is the cheaper motor stand is scary, and I only use it for storage, rarely move it.

I like the gear drive eng. stand that started on Jeggs

, but IIRC, SUmmitRacing sells now too.

Had my complete ls1 on a 4 wheel 1250 lb harbor frieght stand for a few years. Ls is nothing, I've had my pontiac and Buick motors on it as well. Those are big suckers.
