Car lift for 9'8" ceiling ?

I use half of my pole barn for a shop, it is 24X19, but the ceiling height is right at 9'8" after finishing.

I am 6'7" and am tired of crawling under my Torino to work on it. I would still have to crouch down as i might get the car 5' off the ground but it is better than what I am doing now.

Currently the body shell is on a cart I built that gets me 30" of room under my car but still is a pain.

What suggestions would you guys have for a lift?

Thanks, Joe

My garage is similar height, there are drive on and dual post arm lifts that will work.

BendPak XPR-9 posts are 113" tall.

You can put the lift in, but you still won't be able to have a car on it and stand upright under it. I have a 10.5 ft ceiling, and even with a Corvette on it and the lift right up to the ceiling, I have to stoop a little at 5'11...

Lift

Only thing I can think of is to add a pit
since the roof height is limited

Look a maxi lift. My buddy uses one and rolls around under on stool.

Works out pretty good.

Ceiling height is 9'8", but where is the roof in relation? I have a friend who added a tray ceiling in his shop, just for this purpose. He had 10' but after the tray, he ended up with 12'. Of course his roofline was high enough to allow this to happen. He only made the tray big enough for the greenhouse of the car, so not a big deal either.

Thats not a bad idea Scott.

I have thought about having 4 scissor trusses made and remove the sheetmetal on the roof of the pole bar to restructure it.

I think with ought a tray or a cult I may not be able to do much except use a good roll around underneath as was suggested.

I guess I was thinking there was a magic bullet :D

Thanks, Joe

Magic bullet...don't we all? Of course the tray I mentioned was a tad wider than the actual posts of the lift. This is a two post I'm talking about. He's a pretty smart guy...he crew chiefs for a guy named Chase Elliott. He did all my shock work when I raced.

My ceiling is at 10'1... Can get it up descently well, still need to crouch just a little bit, but am able to get good mobility around the underside.
And still allows me to park another one below.
