why not a holley single plane intake setup? similar to what don hardy uses on his LS engines? I'm curious why it isn't more popular on retro builds

I really tried to find that too as I want to run the old school look with my LSX 454, I have been kicking around this:
http://www.delmospeed.com/product/th...y-adapter-ls3/ http://www.jegs.com/i/Chevrolet-Perf...44033/10002/-1 The height is a challenge, probably 11 inches from the deck of the motor, which I am not sure will fit even with the 2 inch cowl hood. If you find someone that will do the custom version with the stock intake like the photo, then count me in for one too. |

I just looked, there's a lot less options for the LS7 unfortuneately, I think the height of the setup you're suggesting will be around 9" for an LS3. If I go this route I'll be using this. https://www.holley.com/products/fuel.../parts/112-587 But I must admit I havent done my full homework yet.... or built the LS3 |

That intake starts life with a reproduction of the factory bottom air cleaner lid from a big block. It clips to the factory style fuel rail. The air elbow and internal baffling are custom made. The air filter element is a K&N Extreme lid. You will need the room created with a lower mount alternator and relocated PS reservoir from the likes of Vintage Air. The Corvette accessory kit from GM does not offer enough clearance. DSE also converted to SD tune to remove the MAF. I would guess they swapped the FAST intake back to a factory version for additional clearance. There are progress photos available on the DSE website under the projects section.
I imagine the reason this was used over a single plane intake was a combination of the tremendous low end power gains from the long plane runners and the desire for a one-off product that DSE is well-known for. C. |
