Seized brakes?
Tried to take the car out tonight for a quick spin and right off the bat the car felt like I was dragging something. So much so I got out to make sure I didn’t leave a tire chalked. Took it around the block and barely made it back in the garage. Had a white smoke coming out from under car.
I drove the car about a week ago and it ran perfectly fine. I did run it hard though. I took a video of the white smoke coming out from the rear but it will not allow me to post it. Anyone have any ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Vac booster or Hydroboost?
I had a similar problem a few years ago with a vac booster. I had to drive home about 6 miles with rear drums smoking...had to get drums machined as they went out of round and new shoes. It was the small disc ( think they call it a reaction disc) in the booster and the booster was essentially "staying on". Never had it before so didn't know what the issue was, but could have pulled the vac tube to the booster and it would have been fine (albeit manual brakes till I got home). |
Could be a collapsed flexible brake line or I had a manual proportioning valve fail once that did the same thing.

Are you sure the park brake is not stuck engaged?

My wife's 65 mustang use to do the same thing. Id drive it one day and it be fine. Drive it another day and one of the calipers would lock up. It would only lock up the rear brakes. I investigated it and started with the proportioning valve since only the rear brakes were locking up. I took up off and apart and found what looked like a broken piece in the valve.
From my research online the proportioning valves have a safety feature in them so that if they fail they lock up rear brakes so you can stop safely ( not on the freeway away 75mph:sieg:)?? I changed the valve to a wilwood one instead of the what im assuming was Chinese, bled the brakes and problem solved. Not sure what brake system you have tho. Keep us posted on what you find. |
so many possibilities.. Ahh the suspense! LOL

Seized up brakes
My Pantera had the front brakes lock up two years back
Installed a new Master then and good until Monterey weekend last month and the same thing happened.. Ordered a new AC Delco master but still made in China... decided to take the old and new to Power Brake Exchange in San Jose and have them figure out what is the issue Seals were swelling up so it would not return.. so he asks me what type of Brake fluid I am using... Was running Castrol dot 4 lma until about 6 years back when I Switched to Motul 600 motorcycle fluid for the high heat My Viper buddy was running it in his car so decided to change I guess it is what has caused the swelling. Had power brake exchange change out the seals in both the new and old master to a Raybestos usa made seal that he gets out of Texas Hopefully my brake issues every two years will go away Bob |

Hope you get it sorted. |
I'll add that another thing that can cause the issue is an adjustable clevis rod that isn't locked tight.
