Kick panel fresh air vent
2 Attachment(s)
I’m not sure exactly what the area is called. Basically around the cowl panel I’ve got water runs straight down to where the kick panel is. Which then can run into the passenger footwell. Doesn’t see much water but something I need to fix.
Will have to take the guards off to sort both sides eventually but curious how they are normally & what I’m missing. Hopefully the pics work (they aren’t my car or my pics, just what I could find). I’ve circled the area where the water is coming from & the panel with the red clamp holding it in the other pic. Not sure if water would run under that or not.. |
Water is supposed to flow down and into the rockers and exit the rear of the rockers. It was intended to be a flow through flush of the rockers.
If you’ve got water flowing into the floor pans then the drain holes are most likely plugged. Don |
Don, you’re a legend mate! I was planning on trying to seal it up. But just don’t have time to rip the guards off now as I’ve got my daughters formal today & engineering next week. After that I’d hoped to rip it apart again to try & sort it out.
I still need to do something as it might just be the angle it comes in at but you might as well take the guard (fender) off & pour water straight down to the kick panel hole at the moment. That’s what it seems like anyway. |
I would pull the kick panel. You will be able to access and clean the drain holes. There is likely a lot of junk in there. Pulling the kick panel is a bit of a wrestling match. :) You won’t gain any access removing the fender.
There is also a drain hole at the base of the cowl panel if I remember right. It’s been a while since I built a first gen Camaro. :) You can access it from below without removing the fender. You should be able to use a long screwdriver etc to poke up in there and loosen the blockage while running some water into the cowl vent. Don |

Don, thanks again! I forgot to reply after you last replied.. I’ve got these kick panels - https://the-shop-llc.myshopify.com/p...ro-kick-panels
so I’m thinking I just need to seal around the pods better. Thanks for your info & help chasing that pic. I had no idea they were supposed to be like that. Glad I didn’t waste my time taking the guard off! My kick panels aren’t actually in either so I only need to remove the pods & can get my arm in easy enough. Hopefully find the holes & clean it out |
