Update time!!

Well after some now or never thinking I decided to add an intercooler. I didn't have the money for a Ron Davis IC so I had to get creative and after many late nights of searching the net I mad a choice to use a Treadstone IC...I feel it's the best bang for the buck and that's what I was after.
This perticular model flows just under 1500cfm which works for me as my ProCharger P1SC max is 1200cfm. It's off the shelf and basically bolts right in! Also I was able to use the stock hood latch and latch brace with a little modification to the brace. All in all I'm very pleased with the outcome and can't wait to plumb it!! :D I'm thinking of painting it black so it wont stand out...any ideas on what the best process would be? Powder coat, Paint, ect.? |
It looks very nice - made for a clean fit. If it were me and I was going to paint it, I would scuff all the smooth parts with a scotch brite pad, shoot on some epoxy primer, and paint it whatever shade of black. The epoxy should help with the bond to aluminum and provide a good base for the paint.
I would love to know particulars on your LT1. Do you have a website or maybe a specific post I can look at? Great project BTW. I love seeing someone doing something different when it seems everyone is doing LSx based engines. GeoffP 68 Camaro LT1/T56 87 Camaro LT1/4L60E |

Thanks Guys!
Geoff, sorry no web page at the moment but here's a quick run down. It's a 96 crate motor that was never used and I got a great deal on it. I was going to go n/a but then got the bug to add the ProCharger (thanks Frank!). So now I have a forged bottom end from Scat and had Diamond build some blower pistons to lower the CR to 8.5:1. Everything has been balanced but I'm waiting to finish the fab work on the car to assemble the motor. I haven't bought the new valve train yet, but most likely will be replacing the Hot Cam that's in it now. The intake is an Accel DFI part that Jody had modded to work on a LT1 and I got the Wilson Manifolds elbow and TB from Jody as well. I have Stainless Works 1-7/8" long tub headers on order. ATI set up the blower for 600hp non-intercooled, now that I have an IC I could add more boost if I wanted. Basically, I would like to see 600rwhp as I've been told that's really the limit of usuable power and I'm not going for bragging rights...just (hopefully) a reliable and powerfull package. Spark is controlled by MSD products, and I use a Holley Commander 950 w/ wide band O2. I have a T56 w/ Hurst shifter and McLeod clutch and flywheel. Well there's more to it, but that's the basics! :) Thanks again guys for the kind words!! |
Man over 160 views and 2 replies...tuff room!! No other ideas on how to make it/keep it black? :(

Could it be anodized black??????
I'd hate to build up too much of any kind of coating material - it will effect it's heat transfer capabilities. Later, Brandon |
Anthony, that looks great! What a nice clean fit.
Looks like a great deal for less than half the price of some of those other IC's... I too am curious if a powdercoat would be better/worse vs. paint or anodizing... Wish I had the answer! |
I agree with wiedemab, I would look into having it anodized. It would be a thinner layer than paint or powder coating. Should have less effect on your heat transfer.
|
I was talking with jp and he recommended anodizing it for the reasons you guys mentioned. It is all aluminum and it can be done so I think I will look into this option more....hope it can be done for a fair price!!

looks good, wonder what it would run to anodize it black? what are your plans for plumbing? Is it an rs front end?
