Tom, to do a screen capture from windows media player, you need to first turn off hardware acceleration. Here's how, assuming you have a Windows OS.
Right click on your desktop, go to Properties
Select the 'Settings' tab
Click on 'Adanced'
Select the 'Troubleshoot' tab
Move the Hardware acceleration slider from 'full' to 'none'
You can now do a screen capture with a video playing.
