The problem I've seen is the bolt isn't long enough to get enough threads in the crank when the balancer is just starting to be pulled on; you run the risk of stripping the crank. I use a threaded rod with large nut/washer, and a roller bearing between the balancer and washer/nut. Bought all of that through McMaster-Carr.
