Sure, you can go with smaller, lighter tube by using ChroMoly.
Then again, that stuff doesn't really see any real impact, etc, so why use something so expensive. Thin wall HREW would hold it just fine, I think.
I get using ChroMoly in roll cage that protects you, but in this use case, it's just supporting weight, right?
