The most extreme example of a CAM legal first gen I am aware of is Mike Dusold's 67 Camaro. There is a Vorslag thread here somewhere of a wild first gen they are building as well but it hasn't been updated in a while. Mark Stielow has built several beautiful and functional first gens, each one better than the last and the builds are documented very well here. Mary Pozzi's Camaro is a 2nd gen but you can get some great ideas from her car as well.
In those examples above you will see a ton of work and cubic dollars spent plus some very good hands on the wheel as well. Stepping down a bit from the 6 figure builds, the Ridetech 48 hour Camaro is probably the fastest I can think of still on a stock front subframe. Most all run built LS power, a ton of aftermarket suspension gear front and rear and the widest wheel and tire combos they can fit under them.
