There is a guy making them with your letter/number combo but they are called "wall hangings". I will have to try and find his info again, I think his name was like Larry's plate?

I just sent in money for the DMV legacy plates. I saw a modern car recently with a black plate and it looked pretty good (I assume it was a legacy plate).

I personally do not like that. I think the black plates should remain only on the 60's cars they came with.

I'm with you! And if you have a 77 Caprice it should be forced to run the awful blue plates. And if you could only fit a 225 in the back stock, then that's what it should run. And those LT-1 engines from the corvettes in the 80s should stay in Corvettes!

I'm just playing. While a black plate probably does look cool on a new car, it would seem out of place to me.

I love the blue plates too actually.

I think I word I was looking for was..... tacky. Just my opinion.

I found the seller of my plates on ebay. And a different seller I got the year correct sticker from.

Since you have a 68 also you should just need a 68 year sticker. But other years are able to use a non-exact year sticker. I did this research over a year ago so I am not 100% on it now. Do your your research to make sure. Here's what I got. I am into it total for about $350 I think. Some guys at Goodguys swap meet area try to sell junkier looking plates for hundreds more I've found.

Looks good Dave.

John, another thing to consider is the first 3 letters on the plate if you want them to match the year of your car. Each year has different series of letters. A quick google search will give you that.

I got lucky as my car came with black plates that are year correct for a 69 car and as an added bonus even includes 69 in it. We sort of restored mine. I didn't want them perfect so it would maintaine the age appropriate character. Here is the front which is way more wavy than the back. We got pretty close on the color. I got my red & white month tag on eBay also.

I even have my old high school plate with my last name on it hanging in the garage.

I hope they never get enough orders for the legacy plates. A orig black plate car means something.it means it has been in ca for most of its life. If this passes I can go buy a rusted our bondo mobile out of Florida and stick black plates on it.

The black legacy plates already passed so those will happen. The old yellow w/black plates and the blue w/yellow plates didn't get enough votes (voting ended).

For a website dedicated to the modification of cars I'm a little surprised by the negative reactions. This is going to be one of the few purely aesthetic modifications I do to my cars... can't please everyone.
