First off, I want to thank everyone for all the advice and information you have given me. I have been trying to get up to Jacksonville to look at this 1970 Camaro that this guy had for sale. Every time I tried to get there something stopped me. Well persistance paid off. I got my loot together, reserved a U-Haul trailer, got up this morning at 7am, and left to pick it up. I got there and the car was a little more rusty then I was told, but it is still in pretty decent shape. The car does need some panels and a drivetrain, but all in all I love it!!! I'm going to make a plan of attack tomorrow. I work for a body shop, I am an estimator, and have a good friend that works out in the shop that is going to do the car with me. I need to write down all the panels that I know will need to be replaced. Does anyone have any advice on what to do first? I'm going to try and load these pics I have of the car. I am a Mopar guy. If I had another car I would look very hard at the 2nd Gen camaro. I like the lines on it alot.

Thanks everyone. There's a lot of work to be done, but I know it will come out just fine. The car was a little rougher than described, but I kinda expected that. I have seen a lot worse repaired so I'm not going to worry too much about it. Thing of it is that I got such a good deal on it I couldn't pass it by. The cars that I have seen on ebay and the collector car trader go for far more then what I paid for this one. I will revise the pics once I get it cleaned out and everything. I can see the potential in the car and I think it's worth saving. I have been told that it's a little rougher than some would bother with, but I disagree. I look forward to getting started on the car and I will keep everyone up to date with pics as I go. I really do appreciate everyones advice and suggestions. Everyone on here seems to be very helpful. I'm glad I found this site.

Congrats on the project, second gen's can be addicting though, I've got two.

Don't worry too much about the rust in the qaurters between the door and wheel well or behind the rear wheels. It's almost a given on these cars, full qaurters are available and fit well. The full qaurters also include the area on the sides of the rear window which is another common rust area. Most panels are available, the only areas that will be trouble or require a donor car is the panel at the bottom of the rear window. The one that the trunk hinges are welded to, not the filler panel. The other area is the toe boards which transition from the front floor pan to the firewall as these are not available as of yet. The best fitting body panels I have found are from either Goodmark or Classic industries.

Don't get discouraged by people saying it's too far gone. If you have the funds and determination it's doable. My 73 gray car had to have full floors, qaurters, tail pan, door skins, and fenders. I almost turned my back on it but I'm glad I didn't. Reproduction parts are hit and miss as far as qaulity and unlike the first gen everything is not available reproduction and you may have to search a little for good used parts.

The value on second gen cars has started to climb in the last three years as you found out so it should be a worthwhile investment. I just love these cars so it's a passion for me. Good luck with the car and keep us posted.

Hey Tommy, the area around the trunk hinges is perfect and so is the decklid itself. It's weird how some of the car is perfect and some areas are not. I'm keeping a positive attitude and I'm watching your other build that you have going on. Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.
