Default a penny for your thoughts.

Heys guys, We are looking at several different ways of advertising.
So we would like your input.
What draws you to an ad?
Maybe a full color page?
Maybe some pricing in the layout?
Maybe just a particular part you have had your eye on?
Where do you look for your parts? ( other than here)
How do you feel about a catalog? Is it something that you look for from a vendor or is it just something that just ends up in the trash?
We have had some success in the past with some of are ads; and others well we may have just gave the money away.
So if anyone can give us some feed back that would be great.
If there is something you dont like to see we would like to hear about that too.
We would also like to hear about some ideas on differant advertising locations.
Everyone here has been great to deal with so we value your opinion.

I have to confess I like the catalog. I ran several shops back in the day before Gore invented the internet, and the catalog was the bible. If you knew the catalog you knew the answer for the customer.
Online is nice, but I always find something else in the catalog that I can't live without, or I didn't think I needed.

One of my favorite catalogs in the day used to have tech tips scattered throught the pages.

Advertising is a tough call. If you place adds for something I'm not interested in, I'll never pay attention. If you're active in the community I'm more likely to buy from you. If the adds peak my interest and I call I hope someone on the other end is friendly and helpful (a little salesmenship too).
If you are always telling me about the price I feel like its one of those adds that arrives in my mail box every week. I have a trash can and a shredder next to the front door for all that.

Quality draws me to an add. Those little 2"x2" black and white squares in the back of a magazine won't do it for me. I rarely ever look at them. Not to say that companies that advertise with those aren't good, the adds just dont get my attention. Simplicity is nice. A good layout that isn't cluttered is easier to pay attention to.

Like Mick said, i like catalogs. I always end up buying more parts from a catalog than i would online. If i am online i am generally searching for a specific part, b/c browsing a online store can take a while. Flipping through a catalog, I generally end up seeing something that I don’t necessarily need but wouldn’t hurt to have either. Having your catalog match your online store is also important to me. Keeping the part #s the same from the store to the catalog, as well as correct product info/pictures. After all that, it’s all about customer service and the salespersons knowledge of the products they sell.
