Default Bluetooth ready car

Ok, I don't know how this thing works, but if someone can give me a clue on if this is a good thing to have or not. I have this new Alpine deck for the camaro, and My wife and I are getting new bluetooth ready phones, so how does this work in a car? I know the handfree thing, but how does this work in the car if you are playing the stereo or anything else. Do you talk into your phone, or car speakers or what. I'm sort of a tech idiot when it comes to this thing.

The way I understand it....once you sync your phone to your Alpine you will hear what normally would come through your phone. If you have voice dial (Call Bob) you can place a call. I don't know if the Alpine you bought has a built it Mic or if you would need to sync a Bluetooh headset to it also. I doubt you can listen to the radio or a CD and have a phone conversation at the same time. Bluetooth is just a way to link two devices together and in this case the phone is still actually doing the work, it's just using your car stereo as a receiver.

That's about clear as mud, isn't it.

Oh...and don't talk into your car speakers. People will just point and laugh.

Mike, my Alpine in my daily driver is Bluetooth ready. I don't use it as it's $200 I don't need to spend for the adapter. Besides that, I've not heard the greatest reviews on it. I hear it echoes and doesn't sound all that hot to the person on the other end of the line. Do a bit of research before using it. The only extra money I spent on my stereo was for the iPod hookup. THAT was worth the $30 I spent on it.

I have Pioneers Bluetooth units both in my daily driver and in my Camaro.

They work like this:
You pair your phone with the unit.
You can place a call by dialing on the phone or the remote control for the unit or voice control. When the phone kicks in the stereo is muted. If you're playing a CD or iPod they will pause. Then the speakers are speakers for the phone and a supplied small wired mike is what you talk in to. My setup gets echo problems for the person I speak to. There is a echofilter but it doesn't do the job properly. It also depends on the person you taqlk to, some adjust to it others don't

You can also transfer the phonebook to the unit so when someone calls their name is shown on the display if they are in the phonebook.

In my unit you can also set it to not mute or pause music, but that will be anoying.

Thanks guys for the response. I think I'm going to have someone program it in for me. Maybe an Alpine rep if there is one at the goodguys show. If not Ill have someone go though it and make it work. Ill end up blowing it up with too much power or something.
