Default Help with tires, 285/30 or 285/40/18's?

Well, time to make the decision, my wheels shipped last Friday, 18x10's. I have the rear wheelwells cut to 12.5" total clearance. I can fit the 285's, but my concern is if they are too tall at 27". I like the lower profile look, but the next size down is 285/30's, which are only 24.8"....too short?

Anyone have some pics to share of their 285/XX/18's?

My alternative is to run 25.6" 275/35's and be safe. Lots of potholes here in MN, so taller is probably better, just don't want it to look like an SUV!

Thanks!
