What kind of HP do you think this engine would put out? The PO told me this engine was like 660hp at the crank but could that be so?

With 12:1 comrpession and that 276 / 284 cam in that little 355, it probably turns 7600 to 8000 RPMS! And lots of RPMs can make lots of power! And it very well could make that peak power way up there if the heads are really worked, even though those heads have some small valves.

The problem is it is only a good drag motor or circle track motor. You could kick its ass on the street with a stock LS1 because that thing will be a stone to 5000 RPMs and the only way to launch it will be a 5500 RPM converter or side steping the clutch at 6 grand, which will lead to tire smoke.

I built plenty of these peak power motors back in the day, no much fun on the street at all. But you may not want to make any bets against the horsepower peak.

Well the car and engine are mine now so i need to figure out what to do as I will be driving the car on the street. He said this is a drag motor built for NOS. Any idea on what this motor could be worth? The engine its self has about 1500 miles on it but the carb and headers as well as the march pullies are all brand new. I would want to sell the engine complete with everything including the M21 thats behind it.

Well, the O Ring heads are great for NOS, but the 107 cam, while it will work with NOS, is by no means representative of a motor built to run on NOS. A NOS cam would be more in the 112 to 115 range of lobe center cam. With that said I run a 106 lobe center cam in my street racer but I built it to run on motor first, spray second. And it does run on the spray pretty good.

As for driving this motor on the street, you will not be able to run it on pump gas, so the compression needs to go. Also, that is a LOT of cam in that little motor. My 406 in my street racer runs a huge cam and it is only 271 / 279, and the motor is 15% larger so it swallows that cam much better. So long story short, your pistons and cam away from a street motor. Probably a balance job also unless you can find a set of flat tops with close to the same weight as the pop ups in it now, which may be difficult as there is going to be a lot less piston material in the flat tops, making them lighter. However different manufacturers make their pistons different, and some weigh more or less then others. The cam is no big deal, a few hundred bucks and a intake gasket set and your ready. but at the end of the day but the time you detune this thing into a nice street motor, your going to have a 400HP motor at best.

If it were me though, I would try to sell this motor and buy Jakes 383 for sale on the board here. That is a nice little street motor

What should I ask for this motor?

I would like to go with a LQ4 with some boost from twins in front of a T56.

Come on now Frank. What would you give me for the motor if you wanted a good drag racing motor? Is it worth $3500?

Now I know why I got a new 55 gallon drum of 118 race fuel with the project. LOL

Ask 3200.00 and hope to get 2500-2800
There is just not much market for a small cube race gas only motor. I have have had a similar fresh never fired 13.6 to 1 406 with better heads and jessle rockers on racing junk for $4800.00 all month and not even had a real bite. This is a motor that would go in a 3300 lb car and run low 9's with a 250 shot.

i agree with frank on a couple things..

cam change and piston change are a must.

try looking at a cam in the 230-240* @ .050" range .500-.550 i know comp makes a retro roller and you would be able to reuse alot of stuff. unlike a flat tappet cam.

you WILL have to change you vlv springs.. bet they are ~200lb closed and some 500lb open this will crush a HYD lifter. 130-135lb closed is about the max for a HYD cam.

intake the vic JR is boarder line streetable... i would drop down to a high rise dual plane like a rpm air-gap

bassicly what is the goal for the motor?
