Default Top Gear TV Show

I just found out they are going to have an american version of this show.

Does anyone else watch the show?

Has anyone heard what the pilot was like, any good?

I dont think that it will last but it would be funny to see what they made it like.

The pilot hasn't aired yet but should soon and if enough people with Neilsen boxes watch it or talk about it, we just might get our own Top Gear instead of only watching UK reruns on Monday night. I'll still watch the UK reruns but it would be nice to have our own prime time Top Gear so tell your friends!

Adam Carolla, Tanner Faust, and Eric Stromer will host and there is a stig and a star in a moderately priced car exactly like the UK format. They know how great the original is and have all due respect for it so they have no intention of messing with it.

Besides being a guy, WTF qualifies Adam Corolla to talk about cars? I sure hope it doesn't end up like the crap that comes out of the Speed TV production crew. At least Corolla might keep the stupid pre-scripted humor under control.

I had my doubts at first, but he seems like he could be a decent car guy. I doubt he works on much of his own stuff, but he has a pretty big collection...

Carolla's 13-car collection is housed in a warehouse, which includes a heavy dose of his affinity for classic Italian sports cars. There are three he saw on eBay -- a 1973 Datsun 510, a 1965 Lamborghini 350 GT (of 120 built), and his latest purchase, a Bob Sharp 1972 Datsun 610 No. 33. The others are a 1972 Porsche; a blue 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 (of 247 built); a red 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2; a 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4; a 1999 Jaguar XJR; a 1989 BMW M3; a 2001 BMW M3; a 2004 Ferrari Stradale, which he wants to sell; a 2004 Aston Martin DB9; a 1984 Nissan 300ZX, which was Paul Newman's old race car.

As much as it is about cars, most things that have nothing to do with mechanical ability.

I love the Sweet Home Alabama routine. The rerun last night with the test track when they fill the car up with water and drive around the track is classic.

The biggest problem with a US Top Gear is the advertisers. The BBC funds the show through the Government, so completely impartial reviews are possible because there is no pressure by ad people. The US TG will be just a showcase for auto manufacturers. If there can be no impartial review because of advertising dollars, it kinda sucks the fun out of the show.

Clarkson wailing on lousey cars is much of the entertainment.

Jay Lenno backed out for this very reason.

That is very true they hold nothing back, If it cost a million pounds and it sucks they say so. Good point.

I agree.... the best part of the show is that they "tell it like it is"..... they dont care if they offend some million dollar supercar manufacturer......if it sucks it sucks, and they dont hold that back...

The US version will be so dependant on being "P.C" and not stepping on any toes, it wil suck all the fun out of the show.

Theres alot of humor and segments on there that would never fly on US TV.

One of my favorites is when they all drive the old cars ( the 3rd gen camaro, the truck and the cadillac) and in one of the segments they decorate each others cars and drive through the deep south.....all the rednecks get pissed and come after them......
