Exclamation Road Race/Autocross Events Rules for body mods???

Hi guys,

I am so jealous regarding all the fun you guys are having at these events (Optima Invitational, etc.)...

With my project my e-body, I was just wondering what the rules say regarding turn signals and door handles (shaved vs. not shaved)??

Also, do I have to have a roll bar to compete?

I don't want to do anything to my car that will prevent me from runnin' it...

Thanks for your input,

John

PS--Anything like the Optima Battery Invitational on the east coast?

Every sanctioning body will have different rules. Only the faster ones require a cage (most auto-x events don't).

Shaving the door handles would be the biggest one to cause you problems. After all, how are the emergency crews supposed to get you out of the car? Some events (like the Optima one) require turn signals.. some even require a horn.

Run Through The Hills is on the east coast (TN).

thanks Steve. I was hoping you would chime in...

Does turn signals mean "side marker" turn signals? Should I not shave those either?

Thanks

Side markers aren't important (shave them).. turn signals are good to have (and required for legal road use in many states)

shaved door handles is a biggie. You can rig up an exterior handle that can be put on for events and use a red arrow to alert personnel where to reach. This doesn't always work though, depends on who you run with.

How come you left your side markers on Penny? Just curious...

When is the next Run through the Hills? Sept '09?

When I put the new engine in I only painted the hood and front fenders.. I didn't shave the front because I didn't want to repaint the car.

When I was wrecked in the back it was just the opposite. I guess I could have removed them at that time but I was concentrating on bigger issues and it slipped my mind.

I'm still hoping Marquez comes out with a nicer bezel

Depends on the rules... but the rules are also up to interpritation. If you have a valid arguement and have what it takes to back up your arguement... sometimes admendments can be made for a singular event... as long as it most likely meets more stringent rules from an established, professional racing body.

You can get away with shaved door handles... you just have to place arrow sticker to point the safety crew to where the release is. SCTA-BNI/FIA have some of the most strindgent rules out there and as an example... the rule will read something like this:

Quote:
"All doors, hatches, and canopies shall be able to be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle without the use of tools. Non-OEM latches shall be clearly marked on the outside of the vehicle for emergencies."
Another associated rule states:

Quote:
"On closed cars, door locks and steering wheel locks shall be rendered inoperative. The driver shall be able to reach all switches, valves and levers while strapped securely in the seat."

For example, here on Chucks hotrod, the sticker pointing to the latch release is on the lower edge of the front fender. It is a sitcker on a sheet maganet so he can take it off when not at the races. It is simply a labele with an arrow:
