Depends on the rules... but the rules are also up to interpritation. If you have a valid arguement and have what it takes to back up your arguement... sometimes admendments can be made for a singular event... as long as it most likely meets more stringent rules from an established, professional racing body.
You can get away with shaved door handles... you just have to place arrow sticker to point the safety crew to where the release is. SCTA-BNI/FIA have some of the most strindgent rules out there and as an example... the rule will read something like this:
Quote:
"All doors, hatches, and canopies shall be able to be opened from both inside and outside the vehicle without the use of tools. Non-OEM latches shall be clearly marked on the outside of the vehicle for emergencies."
|
Another associated rule states:
Quote:
"On closed cars, door locks and steering wheel locks shall be rendered inoperative. The driver shall be able to reach all switches, valves and levers while strapped securely in the seat."

For example, here on Chucks hotrod, the sticker pointing to the latch release is on the lower edge of the front fender. It is a sitcker on a sheet maganet so he can take it off when not at the races. It is simply a labele with an arrow:
