Default To turbo or not to turbo a DD

Like some of you know i am installing an LS1 in a 79 malibu and i now have two real options... i have a set of SS stainless works long tube headers to fit the application from prodogy and have bought a custom high torque cam 226/232 .609/.604 111LS+2 that was spec'ed for ported LS6 heads, and should yield 420RWHP when all is said and done etc...

now i havent bought the heads yet (Well i have them on order from tea, but they are 3 weeks out and i can still change my mind on the specifics)

i also have a setup i bought a year back.. before i decided to go NA... that comprises a livernois single turbo headersetup for an escalade (will fit with minor mods of drivers side header) a t70 turbo speced for the LS1 by schwartz, a 50 mm WG, 50mm BOV, big IC (even have an aeromotive a1000 if fueling cant be fed by my walbro 225... pics below

so all i really need would be tubing (which i have alot of since i would only be running single exhaust instead of dual)
bigger injectors (that i would propably need anyway) and propably an ls9 cam that should be great for boost. and give TEA a call and change my order from small to big chamber... ported ls6 to ported 6.0L with big chamber.... which is basically a free upgrade (and i can sell the stainless works LS headers (they also fit a 1.gen) to recover some cost)

my plan was to get a vic jr intake for looks and flow (know its not needed but i like the look and it wont crack under boost) along with bigger injectors anyway... so my question is this:

stick with the NA setup for durability, or go the extra mile and install the setup in the pic... i allready have it, and having tried to sell it on this board and ls1tech, there were no real takers for it....

all arguments accepted

also what is the difference in "feel" when driving ???

420 rwhp seems low to me i would just have all motor. i have a ls1 before i went through it was dynoed at 424 rwhp and it pure motor. turbo's are cool though might build a 6.2 one day turbo after i get some life out of this one.

I would agree with this I would not run a turbo on my DD but in the end it is your car. Just make sure the buttom end is up to par if you do run the turbo

If the motor is built for it (top to bottom), and you aren't running tons of boost I don't see the harm...but as you know the safe thing is to stick with your n/a plans....I guess I'm on the fence too!!

im just thinking it would be the best of 2 worlds.. streetable idle and wellmanered in trafic and a monster when i floor the throttle... no waking up the whole street when i fire up a big cam v8 at 4 am

Thumbs up

I like turbos but, I LOVE NA motors!!!
It all depends on your personal opinion for the turbo. I guess if there is not much boost, it might more street-mannered. 420 rear wheel horses is not too shabby, but more is always better!!! LOL!!!
Good luck and keep us posted.
