Default Abs

I would like to have ABS on my car and I know it would be a huge undertaking. There may be some add on systems but they would be so pricy rather build one.
I need a unit that uses a stand alone ecm so not to get too involved with other computers in the car.
I found that the Toyota Mr2 uses a stand alone unit (mostly) so I will look into gathering up parts. I have to install all new brake lines in my project anyway.

What do you guys have to say ?

Considering you're building a Kart on steroids (no offense as I love 914's) I prefer the raw braking modulation a manual master cylinder delivers. Coming from a motorcycle background non-assisted brakes just feel proper to me and add another element of driving challenge.

I won't argue the benefits of ABS and on the track a good system will beat a human but where's the fun in that!

From what I've seen the systems that really work on the track without faults are not inexpensive.

While I don't know too much about ABS, but what i do know is this is one beautifully awesome ride and build.

Could you start a build thread in project process? cause i'd love to see more, soo would many of others on this site. you may get more answers there too.....

Intresting car and wery good idea to build abs on it. Something i would like to do on my car if i could get "easy" kit...( and skills ..)

Matt Jones from Art Morrison build super nice camaro with abs using C5 corvette stuff. If you do some search here, you will see he has helped others with abs questions few times. He is really clever and nice guy to deal with

Sorry I haven't mastered how to include multiple quotes in my post. I'll try to comment on your comments.
I owned and built a V8, 914 some 5 years ago and it looked nice but didn't have the framing or suspension this one will. Below is a pictute of the old car.

I like the feel of non anti-lock brakes but driving on the street it may come
in handy. I did see the old school Camaro mentioned in the other post and it must have taken some time to get it right.
I can't take credit for the suspension and all the work it took to frame things up. Some months ago 30 miles from my home I drove by a garage
where this car was being built. Stopped and fell in love with the craftsmanship. I weld but not like this guy can. It didn't take long for us to make a deal. It wasn't cheep but nothing is now a days. I will keep you guys posted in the build thread area.

So quoting multiples is just the icon next to the quote tab on the lower right of whosever posted.

Putting such an awesome thread/build as this in the project progress section, will, imo, yield more quality technical answers as not everybody comes down here (lsx conversions) to look.

Hope this helps

Not a reply to your question, but man I'd like to see this when done. A close friend of my dad gave me a 914 when I was in my early twenties, but I couldnt afford to get it where it need to be and sold it. You should have the mods move that thread

I have toyed with the idea of adding abs to my project car. I was thinking of adapting 4th gen F-body three channel system, that's one reason for the rear axle I installed, has the speed sensor on the ring gear.

The other system which might easily be use would be off an S10, cheap and readily available. By adding an adjustable proportioning valve to the rear for "tuning".

Moving along building this project, it seems almost endless. I am getting the engine together and building the cooling system. I've got the 914 wiring harness installed and have the LS1 unit ready to install. I'm going to use 2 Spal 12 inch fans. I think they seem small but they say each is rated at 3,000 cfm that's a total of 6,000 cfm. I'm going to call Spal and ask them about this spec. to be sure. I'm also looking at a clutch, its a pricy unit because I have to use a Porsche 911 unit.
