Default painting a cage

I am thinking of priming my cage as soon as it is completed and then let it sit(inside) until I decide on interior color. Dealing with flash surface rust is a real pita here in the gulf coast. I really do not want to be forced into treating the rust and sanding prior to priming later on.
Anyone have pointers on prepairing or painting a newly installed cage? The car is a bare shell so overspray should not be an issue.

Scuff it and epoxy prime with SPI epoxy.
