Firebird Help

I know there is some firebird guys on here. So I was in a fenced in lot today getting ready to pull a few vehicles out and this was in the corner of the lot. I've got the owners anem and I'm going to contact him on what his intentions are. I'm just hoping maybe someone can help me out with decoding this car and possibly giving me a ball park figure on what it's worth the way it sits. The paint looks like it was done fairly recently with a few minor defects and the rest of the frontend is in the car & everything is there.

This car was the 61,301 made at the Lordstown, Ohio plant.


If it was a 400 car, it'd have a "3f" instead of "3m". Unfortunately, 1968 birds didn't have this info on the body tag- requiring you to purchase the pontiac historical services info for sure.

The "1" in the vin tells you it's a V8. 6 cylinder cars had a "6". this is the first # in the production sequence. (161301)

Also, Verdoro green was a special order color for Pontiac in 1967- making it all the more unique and less common.

If you can get a deal on it I say go for it!

The 326 HO option with a 4 speed would be considered desirable. Cool car and color combo. Looks like the decor group came with the sport steering wheel. Does it have the original drivetrain? The HO got the cool side stripes and dual exhaust, etc.

The Pontiac Firebird was introduced February 23, 1967. There were a total of five engine options available. Marketed as the "Magnificent Five", two engines were versions of the overhead-cam six cylinder. Another version, the "light weight" Firebird H.O. (High Output), came with a 326 V-8, with the top two being versions of the 400 engine. The 326 H.O. powered Firebird with stiffer suspensions, dual exhausts, and side stripes with "H.O." lettering was available for an additional $169.70. Premium fuel together with four-barrel carburetion provided 285 horsepower. Only 6,078 H.O. Firebirds were built-in 1967. All '67's, except base Firebird models, received right rear adjustable traction bars.

I'm trying my hardest to pick this car up. Contacted the owner today and we talked for awhile about the car. He said he has the motor & trans that came out of the car and it was a 4 spd trans but I will have to verify the engine numbers. But it's looking promising now the question is will he try and rack me over the coals on the price. But haven't discussed that yet. Just talked about the car and why it's sitting in the lot.

Apparently he paid a shop allot of money upfront to restore the car and the company went belly up with his car sitting in the booth. Thank god they atleast finished that portion of the job.

I would go ahead and get the PHS on it if it looks like you might make a deal. The codes on the trim tag are somtimes wrong. The PHS would also tell you which engine was in it maybe it was a 350 HO and it will also tell you what dealer it came from. PHS has made and/or saved me a good bit of momey over the years.

The color repainted on that car doesn't look to be Verdoro green. It looks lighter. My car is verdoro green for comparison's sake.

Also, the '67 Firebird was available with dual traction bars, too. (mine came with it, but I sold them off to help offset the price of the DSE set up I've ordered) They are rare, not impossible to find. These would make the car even more desirable if you're looking for originality.

the 350 Pontiac (don't confuse with chevy) engine wasn't offered until 1968.

Oh yeah the car I am trying to get is much lighter then your car was. But I still like the color choice they used. I'm not much of an originality kind of guy if you ever saw my nova.

Yeah, the pics don't resemble Verdoro, but whatever it is, I think it's looks fantastic. I love the color, kind of a mist green. Putting the black HO stripes on it would be really cool, or be really different and have a set made in Silver.
