Default 5th gen IRS into 2nd gen

Has anyone looked into doing this? Namely creating the appropriate mounting points on the 2nd gen body for the 5th gen rear subframe?

I am interested in possibly doing this at some point in time, and I would just like to know if this is sort-of-feasible or not, for example if it would fit without cutting the rear frame rails, etc...

I looked into using a GTO and G8 rear IRS briefly. Anything is possible, but the amount of cutting and fabricating turned me off the idea. You pretty much have to gut the entire back of the car and build from scratch.

You would be way ahead if you used one of the Heidts bolt in IRS units.
Call Randy Johnson at D&Z Customs. He can give you the details and sell you one. He has been running one in his second gen with a blown LS motor at tracks all over the country. It sounds like it works really well for him.
Good luck, post some pictures of your car.

I've posted a picture and some info here:
https://lateral-g.net/forums/showthread.php4?t=33343

Thanks for the info on the heidts IRS, but I'm still interested in the possibility of the 5th gen one. Since there is no definite 5th gen IRS thread around (and I've searched), I'd like to make this thread into something like that.

If anyone has experience, pictures of an install, issues, measurements, please post up, and I will update the top post with the info.

I wish I knew where to direct you for that specific info.
If you want a 5th gen IRS get in touch with Gus at Cleveland Pick a Part. (sponsor here in the parts for sale section often.) I am sure he can set you up with a complete unit. Maybe some specs too?
If you decide to go with an aftermarket unit, Randy for the Heidts unit or The Roadster Shop also has a unit called "fast track IRS". Its a complete system including custom frame rails for your application.
Both are very nice systems. But the Heidts is the only true bolt in that I know of.
