Which One???

Ok I have a 69 Camaro as many of you may know. It is mini tubed and most of the metal work is finished, I have been working on this car on and off for a few years now. I get going, then work or family gets me off track. So heres my issue (well one of them ) I'm not that interested in the Camaro anymore, it's like your backside everyone has one. Also the wife has not really ever been into it, but she has always wanted me to build a wagon for her and the kids to drive in the summer to the pool and such. So after standing in the shop for a few hours on Saturday I started looking for a wagon, found a few nice canidates but one stuck out! A 66 Nova wagon in very nice shape all apart but does not need any panel replacement ( atleast from the pictures). So the guy is willing to trade which I know mine is worth more and I could finish the shell and sell it for more then go buy a wagon but I think I will just end up working on it for a small amount and just stop as I have in the past. So what would you guys do, a 69 camaro or 66 Nova wagon? I have many cool idea's for the wagon and could more than likely get it on the road (without paint) this summer, shake it down work out any bugs then over next winter blow it apart and paint it, then have a nice family hot rod that I could hit the cones with once or twice a year. Of course we know the Camaro would be a far sicker build, but again, as u said...everybody has one. Well, not everyone, because I don't. But, in this sense, the wifey is more into the wagon for the kids and the family thing and want the wagon done. This may allow for a bigger budget and her being more understanding of the build. Do the wagon and make her happy and possibly do a Camaro at a later time and then she will be ok with a Camaro being done after her wagon. But, being smart about it, she probably won't go for a Camaro before the Nova Wagon. I think this is about priorities and logic.

Family is so important. If the wife can be on board and you like the car too, I don't think there is an option. The wagon would be bad! We have all lost more money changing parts or ideas mid-stream than you are likely to loose. Then there is the fact you are already saying you are tired of it and will probably not work on the Camaro anyway. I see a hot Nova Wagon in your future!

If you really want a wagon,Take a few extra week's & sell the camaro.Try and get as much dough for it as you can.Then go shopping for the wagon with cash in hand.When I started looking for a nice rust free 69 camaro shell,10K is about what I was going have to spend.So don't tade 10K-12K for something U can find on craig'slist for 5K.Good Luck

All known aspects considered a happy wife and a Nova wagon will benefit you more at this phase of your life than the Camaro. If she really gets on board with the project maybe you can talk her into a Roadster Shop or equivalent chassis.

Thanks for the imput guys, I think I have an idea of what I need to do! As Scott said above I really don't want to lose money as it is hard enough to come by these days anyway. So I will get going and get my shell finisheds up and then put it up for sale. I will find other wagons forsale and just buy one. In the end I will I will have more money to play with and build a better car. So if anyone is looking for a 69 Camaro shell let me know, I will post up a ad in the forsale section soon. But if you want something done before I get to far let me know and we can work out a deal. Again thanks for the imput guys

Based on your post, it really seems that one main problem is available time to work on the car, regardless of whether it is a Camaro, or a wagon.

My advice is, if a wagon is what you and the family really want, then you should sell the Camaro and, if the proceeds are enough, buy a running/driving wagon that is in good enough shape where you can at least enjoy it on some level, with the family.

If the Camaro sale proceeds are not enough, then, bank that money and save up more money, until you can buy a running/driving wagon.

Then, you will have a usable wagon on which you can undertake individual upgrade projects that will only take a weekend or two, while still having a drivable car to enjoy with the family.

It would suck to trade the unfinished camaro project off on an "equally-unfinished" wagon project, which is also just stalled there in the garage for lack of resources (time, or money, or both)

Rob's insight is worthy. Finding one that's a decent driver provides the luxury of doing minor improvements with minmal down-time.

I was thinking off the wall the other day that it would be prety cool to build a good looking street car with a built inline 6...........just because it's different and would produce more than enough power to land you in jail

Everyone has a camaro and to make it something special now days you have to go above and beyond the normal build qualities just to be seen at a show......the wagon will draw people to it because it isn't seen as often and will bring your family together.
