Default Upgrade gauges?

I am planning on putting a Covan dash in the car and have the Auto Meter Ultra Lite's to fill it. Now that someone posted pics of the Ultra Lite II's at night, I think I need to upgrade

Question is, is it worth buying a set of new gauges when there is nothing wrong with the old ones? Is there that big of a difference? I have not seen the cobalts or II's in person, so I am e-shopping for opinions. The car is apart right now, so I figure now is the time to do it if I'm gonna....

If anyone has pics of a Covan in a GTO, post them up

Thumbs up

I think it all depends on personal preference. I swapped from the original ultra lights to the II version a couple of years ago. You could always sell your old ones and recoup some the money to put towards the new style. I switched because I did not like the perimeter style lighting compared to the LED backlit version while driving at night. If you never drive (or hardly) drive your car at night, then I don't think the change would be warranted. My only complaint with the II style back lighting is that the factory light switch rheostat does not control the backlit intensity. It is not super bright but sometimes it would be nice to turn it down a bit. Autometer sells a dimmer #9114 for about $30. I think I will get one eventually. Other than that I like them alot.
