Stude project

[SickDesign]

Not sure if this is pro-touring worthy or not, but it is pretty close.

A little history: Back in the mid to late 50's in Long Beach there was a car club called the Cut0Outs. An original member Dick Gonzales owned a custom Studebaker. This car went through a few transormations over the years, but finally was done and dubbed the "Yellow Pearl". The car graced quite a few magazine covers and competed with the likes of George Barris and Gene Winfield. The car was painted by the now famous Larry Watson.

Years went by and he sold the car to a friend who lost the car in a garage fire. Fast forward to today. Last year Dick found another Stude in Arizona and had it shipped up here to Mass. He wants to re-create this car, wrapping the custom body around a brand new chassis/drivetrain. The only body mod different from the original will be a slight chop to add to the overall look of the car.

The top has been chopped, I just dont have a good pic of it yet. If this is interesting to others, I will continue to post pics of progess. Hoping to have it done for the 07 World of Wheels in Boston.

btw.... "pro-touring" can be summed up like this:

"As long as it stops, steers and accelerates better than stock it is protouring,the rest is subjective."(Steve Chryssos)

so by goin with the new chassis and drivetrain.... the stude falls into the "pt" movement

Yeah, Art Morrison did the chassis. Beautiful work too. The welds were almost to nice to grind smooth

He wants whats on it now, which are the tru-spokes. It matches what he had on it back in the day. Wheel Vintiques did the rims, and Coker did the WW tires. I guess it's ok, but it's the one thing I'm not 100% happy with. They are a bigger rim and a wider tire than original, but still not my style, but I'm not the owner.

Hey Keith,
Did I ever show you the 53 Stude Speedster rendering I did for a guy a few years back? He wanted it really "slick". So I designed it to have a billet insert grill, Mercedes headlights, roll bar/hard tonneau cover, tinted lexan wrap-around windscreen, C5 mirrors and I think he dropped in an LS1. He wouldn't budge on the wheels though. The builder he used was able to get rid of that strange looking swoosh on the side too.

Sweet Ben. Yeah I saw that before. I prolly will be contacting you soon anyways for some ideas on the camaro. I can envision it in my head, but putting it on paper is another thing(Lately I draw like Edward Scissorhands with the shakes)
