Default Frontrunner Alternator Question

I have heard rumors that the "Tuff Stuff" alternator that is included in the Vintage Air Frontrunner Kit has proven to be not very reliable. Anyone with first hand experience and or comments? If it is true, has any one found a more reliable alternative/replacement to the Tuff Stuff alternator that is compatible with the Frontrunner Kit?

I'm about to purchase a BBC Frontrunner and want to know what I'm getting into before I drop $2K. Any info is much appreciated.

Overall thoughts on the Frontrunner?

Thanks,
Gary

Front runner kits are one of the best on the market imo. I have sold quite a few front runners and only had one alternator come back. Only other BBC kit i would consider would be Billet Specialties if you decided not to go with the front runner.

I will second that as well. We have installed equal amounts of frontrunners and trutracs and haven't had an issue with a tuff stuff alternator yet. I did have a power master comeback on a trutrac, though but powermaster repaired it and we were on our way again.

On a big block both products are very good.

We ran into a charging issue once. Added a ground strap to the alternator and all was good. I think the new ones call for a ground wire now. We use frontrunner systems whenever we can, good quality.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Not interested in a remote reservoir for my power steering so looks like Frontrunner it will be.

Yeah the powdercoated or anodized kits need a ground strap on the alternator......learned that one the hard way too.
