Default Yet another thread about the resident "shoe"

I must admit, sometimes I get leery of posts, pictures and threads about another first gen camaro that Mark has built, driven, raced, won with, beat on, overhauled, made commercial with, innovated with, redesigned, shoehorned in this, retrofitted that, blah, blah, blah, blah.....
Seriously, what has he not done with a 67-69 camaro. Almost to the point even he has trouble dreaming up new ideas.... Right?
Well, not so much. Last weekend he was at RTTC driving from what I understand the first prototype camaro that GM ever had. Yes, it was back in 1940, and they used what they had laying around the shop, an old, unsold chevy body to cover up the true car. While the CG is a bit high and he had to adjust his driving style a bit to compensate.
WOW, did he ever!!! I stood in the center of the ring so to speak at the autocross and watched him do things in this car that I couldn't do in a race car, but then you all have seen my driving lately.
For Jack to bring the beauty out and let Mark beat on it is amazing, for Mark to run the times he did in it is incredible. Yes, Mark finally got beat....lol but when you look at the final numbers and realize people were in their best hotrod, turning their best times and Mark was in this, shall we say, aero-challenged cheby, it just shows he is the "shoe".

Great to see you again my friend, I hope you and Jack had a great time, sorted out some things on this car and maybe even learned a few more tricks on handling, aero, and brakes. My hat is off to you SIR for the fine exhibition you put on for us spectators.

Thanks Buddy!

I had a great time running "mid-pacK". The 36 was a hoot. With the San Ana winds she was a bit trick on the high speed stuff.

The 36 won it's class at the Oakland Roadsteer Show a year ago. So Jack letting beat on it like a rented mule was impressive. It took a week end of abuse like a champ. We tuned the shocks and sway bars a bit and made it very drivable. Even Jack took it out for a few laps. The cluch was acting up a bit at the end of the day so we parked it to save the clutch for the shoot outs.ole event

We ran the whole event with the Vintage Air cranking. You can have a hot rod at the track and be comfortable at the same time!

Did I mention Jack Chisenhall is a true car guy and owns Vintage Air.....

Thanks for a fun weekend!

Mark

The performance of that car was significant beyond explanation. To take a "tall brick" and get it even within shooting distance of modern technology and methods [with little or no previous tuning] is an epic feat.

Yeah...that was impressive. Next feat...a 4000hp Kenworth!

And lets not discount the willingness of Jack Chisenhall to let Mark FLOG a [I'm guessing] a $400,000 street rod to the point of complete success or submission.
He may own Vintage Air...but he posesses a true hotrodders spirit. Look up the cars that he has built and/or has supervised.

My hero.

Although the tire tread deal on the left of their column looks cool, it makes it near impossible to read the text. If you highlight all the text it's a much easier read.
