Ok I've been trying to sell my 78 gold trans am for ever and I'll have to give it away to get rid so I have some ideas running through my head just want to hear everyone's opinions. I may find a decent 70-73 firebird and swap all my parts into it or should I use them on a camaro? I rather own the bird but I'm always looking to sell my stuff so what do you do you think? I couldn't buy to parts to build another car for the $40k I'm trying to get out of it, so I might as well use it and try to sell the tub and parts left over. The next one will have a back seat and a/c! Thanks Telly
If you sell it an auction, then it could go rather low in price than you expected. If you like the trans am, then I suggest you keep it. Since you are doing most of the work, then your cost will be rather low. On my 67 RS Camaro, I just upgraded for the past 30 years. I have no intention in selliing the car, because it is exactly what I want.
The car is a bargain at that price with the list of parts. If it were a 67-69 Camaro, you would have parted ways with it long ago. I think even changing the parts over to a 70-73 Firebird/TA would be a tough sale. Even with it being one of the more popular years of TA's, it is still a TA and they don't seem to bring the money that Camaros do. I will probably face worse hurdles if I ever try to sale the 74 Firebird that I am building. It will be similar in regards to the quality of parts going into it (C6 subframe, 418, 4 link), but it is an off-year car and the market is limited for a)people wanting to buy a Firebird b)people wanting to buy a PT car and c)people that actually understand the money you have invested in parts.
Stock or well restored T/As are still bringing almost that much money though, right? You'd think people would throw in a few more bucks for one that actually performed but by now, we know the differences between us and restorers.
Have a line on enough stuff to bring it back to stock so you can actually sell it for good money and then be able to put it into something else?
