Default all 2nd gen axle housings the same?

I'm brain farting right now and can't remember if all 2nd gen 8.5 rear ends use the same housing. Can any one confirm for me?

I've got a line on a complete open diff for $100 but just need to make sure lower 3 or 4 ratio gears and a series 3 carrier will fit even if it's currently a 2.41 or 2.56 ratio. I literally only need the housing. The rest is getting replaced.

Thanks

Had another person I called about a rear end confirm for me that only the carrier itself is different and all the housings are the same.

Thanks

Yup, all 1971-1981 second gen F-body use the same housing. The only difference is the location of the brake line bracket and the differential inside. Which is either a 2 or 3 series diff and can only accept certain ratio ring gears.

$100 is a lot of $$ for that IMHO.

$50 is about more accurate for a one legger high ratio

Thanks. I already picked it up. $100 is what they are going for in this area it seems. I'll gut it this weekend and get it ready to build just as soon as I find someone to build it for me.
