Default Compression Latch/Quick Release Fastener

I am looking to mount a switch panel on my console surface. I'd like a qhick release solution that allows me access to the underside of the panel without removing substantial portions of the console. I have used Dzus 1/4 turns but I have a couple of panels that a compression latch would work better, ie have no surface to mount the bottom of the Dzus too. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Here y9ou can see the panel mounted with the Dzus fasteners

In this shot you can see why I don't like them

If you Google (images) "panel fasteners", they show a variety of styles that might work. Some are more compact than Dzus's.
How about the expanding plastic panel fasteners that the mfrs use to fasten plastic trim under the hoods today? While some have the phillips head "screw" that backs out to release the wings, the ones on my Acura release by pushing in a little pin in the center. I think they might work well and are pretty clean looking...

Yes kitchen cupboard latches are what you want. Some are magnetic too.

Great ideas. I'm trapping mid 150's, I'll study that some but it has to be able to take an impact and not fly around inside the car.
