Default Camaro to be built in Ontario

They have just announced tha the new Camaro will be built in Oshawa Ontario Canada. This is juat after they totally dismantled the plant in St. Therese Quebec. And then people wonder why GM is in such financial trouble.

Cheezer.....that plant was ready to topple in on itself...that's why it was leveled. Canadian auto workers should be happy...Canada gets to keep Camaro production. And who knows...that might not be the only car that gets built in Oshawa.

That's what the government and GM wanted you to believe .......

That plant had just undergone a huge renovation with Quebec TAXPAYER money ($200 million I believe, which is still a lot even in Canadian dollars !lol). I live near Montreal, and my friend had a lot of contracts painting the inside of the plant. I am a little fuzzy on the details of how the Unions and Government worked it out with GM. I am sure If I search the archive I can find plenty on the subject.

As a fan of the Camaro I am happy, but as a Quebecer, I kinda feel shafted, or at least able to say : I told you so, to GM..........

I guess it is better than the Crown Vic guys got over at Ford.

I just saw the leader of the union on TV, Buzz Hargrove, say that Camaro production alone is not enough to justify the plant staying open. He said it will be a modular plant, implying at least one other (rear wheel drive ?) vehicle will share the assembly line to make it productive enough to be viable.

Are they building a new plant? GM has a plant here in OKC sitting empty after stopping production on the Envoy back in Feb.
