I guess I am thinking this would be the same as what chop shops do, replacing the registration of a bad (stolen) vehicle with a good one.

It is aginst fedeal law to remove and reaffix a vin or a hin from one manufactured car or boat trailer impliment or equipment to another, and quite a steep punishment if caught.

Default Against the law

It is a felony charge for each VIN changed. If you were to change the two hidden VIN's, they each carry a seperate felony charge. I know because I have legal action as we speak against a person who changed 3 VIN's on a car. He basically rebodied the car. The title matches the VIN's and is clean. That did not matter to the State police. They filed three felony charges against this person who live in Ohio. I would recommend staying clear of it. It is not illegal to change the trim tag(according to State Police), although it should be when someone is scammed out of their hard earned money.
