Default Drag Racing....

Pro Touring.....

I love it, but i really LOVE Drag racing too!!!

I was at a semi local 1/4 mile track this week end helping out a friend with his newly out car (69 Olds w/ 468 BB). He had been running some poor 1/8 mile times since the beginning of the season. He was really dissapointed as this translated to very low 12's and some 11.70's at best.

He is running a Fogger system and the engine is dynoed at 647 Horses on an engine dyno.

We got there (well he) at 8 am on saturday and i joined him with my girl at around 1 pm after being stuck with leaving the kids at grandma's and being stuck in traffic for over an hour after a guy flipped his dually on the highway to the track (which is 2 hours from my house...)

We grabbed a few burgers and then watched a few runs, still at 11.65 or so.

At some point we started to check things out and realised the throttle was not opening fully (you could see the car was not 'snapping). Fixing that and some dialing of the programmable N2O progressive system and we got an 11.34, Cool!

A few fixes up and runs later....

We rechecked the nitrous system and did a few adjustments again. The day was getting to its end and he was really dissapointed because he was so sure the combo would put him in the 9's or at least low 10's (Fogger is good for 500HP ok) so we set it a BIT harder but still at a max of 250Hp shot total.

I still remember his face when he was backing up to the lanes as i said; is this the 10 run? as he anwsered with a MAJOR grin on his face. On the burn out, i could see he was going to give it all this time.

Stage. we had dialed 10.80 vs a 10.42...

Race.

I was filming but there we're many people in front of me so i raised my arm over my head to finish filming the run and could not see anything i was filming....I quickly brang it back down when the tower guy said "we have an accident at the end of the track".

It turned out it was nothing. The trans had blew thru the bellhousing as a result of the driveshaft splitting when the third hitted in. It took out the exhaust system (bent, but still in place. Thanks safety loops!) on its way too but its was more scary than anything.

The important thing we remember from this run......Is that when we got the time slip; It said 10.07 !!!!! And that is with the car slowed down some ± 50 feet from finish line!!! So to us, that was a 9 sec run...On a 250 shot!!!

Man it was cool, he never even mentionned the replacement parts! we we,re way too busy thinking when we will get it back to run soon, and get that 9.

Just had to share, it sure was a nice day, got a sunburn to prove it!!!

Later

Lead
Oh, i have some 20" Forgeline to sell or will trade for some 15" alumastars and slicks.... 'Kiddin!

Sounds more like the covertor blew up because he didnt have an anti-ballooning plate.
A driveshaft splitting or breaking would never effect something comming out of the bellhousing.
With that kind of power I would go to an ultra bell and a nitrous convertor (with the plate for nitrous applications).

10.07 is not to shabby for lifting before the finish
MPH compared to the others will tell you what it would have run.
But sounds like a Nice run anyway!

Glad he and everyone else was okay.

I wish my local track opened in the morning. It opens in the afternoon. Hoping to make it to the track myself in the next couple of weeks. Hoping for a 10sec NA pass.

Hey Steve,

I told my friend that in order to have "weak legs" after a good run like that...You need legs! So he is actually looking at an ultrabell, unfortunately he needs a complete case as the 400 splitted at a place it can't be saved. I just looked at the new TCI X line, looks interesting too. The torque is a N2O unit and is ok, we noticed the engine supports have slacked too, so that might be what twisted- cracked the case (?) as the trans support is ok... I remember MPH's being down but don't have the slips with me (they are his you know so they are at his place )to give you the exact results.

We have been working/ racing cars for long but are fairly new to "serious" drag racing. This is FUN!

I got to tell ya I love drag racing also .

I managed to drive our LS1 mustang to a 10.16 at 136 . I since changed to a individual NOS fogger style set up with a 200 shot .

I think 9.8's will be the result.

Thats awesome your bud was in the mid elevens and now knocking on 9's. I know he must feel great and probably doesnt care about the broken parts .
Keep it safe , things get weird going that fast !!

You guys are killing me. My street racer has been parked since Pigeon Forge Run through the Hills! Someone asked the other day What's wrong with it? I explained nothing, just to busy! Think it is time to dust it off!
