Default 1:24 70 Challenger I've been talking about

alright so this is just a teaser because it's not done (there is a pic, keep scrolling and skip all my blah blah blah if you want) but if that doesn't make you point and get all fuzzy inside like a little kid at his first car show then i don't know what will. Challengers are my personal love and of course we all lust for things we can't have ... you know, unless i had lots o' cash to burn. AAAAANYWAY. I got inspired by the TV show Drive ... many of you probably missed it because it lasted all of 3 or 4 episodes and was quickly canceled after that. It wasn't a bad show though but it was on Fox. *crickets chirping* It's the show where everyone referred to it as the 73 when in fact the car in the show was a 70. The car in the show had an RT hood and stripe ... black car, blue stripes with big Bullitts and God it was sexy, even though the 70 RT stripe is my least fav. Well because no one makes an RT hood and I don't much care for that stripe I went with a TA appearance. The spoiler is wrong but I think I like them both equally and in real life this would likely be a clone. I would try to keep the car with TA racing function in mind and maybe even the 340, just hopped up a little with modern suspension and all that jazz. I planned for chrome bumpers but couldn't get it done and so they are off right now getting paint ... black. It will get the side exhaust as well. I hand masked the stripe based on the body lines and A: i'm not cool enough to do a pin stripe and B: I like it w/o the pin stripe so there ya go. Give me a couple days and the car will be complete. Oh, I've changed the stance some since this pic.

Looks great! I like the stripe down the side. Nice finish. Are the rear wheels bigger than the front ones? Should look really good when it's finished.

i wish i could get wheels like that and i was noticing the same thing when looking at this pic but they are the same size all around. it was seeing these really high end models here and over at AF that got me started on this and seeing how many people are doing it you'd think that folks like Pegasus (these wheels) would start making some other wheel options like staggered sizes and offsets. They have a pretty limited line of wheels and it seems to me they would do well to bring out a couple new looks and sizes/offset. i really wish they would. Width options would be nice too so i wouldn't have to put fatties on the front of my car ... if anyone is listening over at Pegasus I have LOTs of ideas. although, i've noticed that the import models seem to be a lot more popular than muscle cars according to AF members. *shrugs* maybe Revell should crank out a couple new muscle car models. OR conversion kits for existing bodies.

Pegasus does make aluminum sleeves to make the rims taller. You just have to play around with different tires. Sometimes you can find the same style rim in a bigger size. I know they make them in the style you are using (19's & 23's). Below are some pics of some examples. The GNX and Cougar just have bigger tires put on the rear rims. The Challenger has those sleeves on the rear, and the Camaro has an old set of smaller aluminum sleeves with smaller tires on the front along with some toy wheel centers that were mounted on the outside on the front and inside on the rear to acheive the different offsets.

Keep us posted on your progress!

wait, so i buy the sleeves and they just go on over the wheel i bought? and they sell tires to fit those sleeves ... or i should say, those tires that they sell seperately are to fit the sleeves? That's not a bad idea ... but don't they then just look like 2 pieces? or do they fit pretty damn perfectly? And i didn't understand what you're saying about the camaro's wheels .. what are toy centers?

the Pegasus website gives no helpful information for someone like me who hasn't used their products before ... they sell tires that are supposed to go on 16 inch wheels (or 18s) but i don't see where they sell 16s in anything or they just don't say. stuff like that is really confusing. or two different sleeves and tires packages say all the exact same information except some sort of product number and that obviously doesn't help. if they actually offer the same wheel in different sizes it doesn't say so ..... they only make 3, or maybe 4 wheel styles i like anyway.

First, the easier of the questions. The wheel centers that are on the Camaro are from a toy (or game) called "Hubbs" if I remember correctly. I don't think they make them any more as I got them on clearance for $.25 for two packages that had 4 wheel & tires in them (they did not all match) & removable wheel centers (that I used) Here is a pic showing what was included. I guess my point was to keep your eyes ope as you never know where you may find some wheels to use. I have a friend who found a 1/43 donk that he bought for $2.00 and took it appart to use the wheels on a 06 Mustang.

Now, about Pegasus. A set of aluminum sleeves that turn 19" wheels to 23" come with tires. They fit pretty tight and have a lip to hide the seam. Look closly at the rear wheels on the Challenger and you will see a difference in color (I have not polished the aluminum part yet), or you can count the lines from the center out to the rim on the front, and do the same on the rear to see where the plastic chrome rim stops.
Now about their website, it does seam they have not updated it in a while. I called out there before I placed an order and the guy (I think his name is Mike) is very helpful. You may want to call them with your questions if you don't have a local hobby shop that carries them. This link is a little better. I know there was a better one that showed the sleeves.

The different size wheels, You need to see the 23" ones and most are based on a 19 version. I know the chrome T's are (the ones you have) and the chrome Hellas (I have a set of each). Your LHS should have a current catalog and be able to help you out. If not, give them a call directly and they are very helpful.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Oh, I forgot. Pegasus also sells just the rubber tire. I think I used the M- low profile found on the link I posted above. You will not want the ultra low profile (they are what normally come on their wheels).

Well this is certainly food for thought. I think i'm just gonna have to get a few of these things and just see what really works for me or fits what i like anyway. Thanks for all the help. I'm a cheap ass who hates to buy anything without knowing everything about it first. Also, I didn't get home until later than normal last night so by the time i got done polishing my bumpers the sun was already down. I'm on a plane tomorrow but I'll try to get finished pics up anyway. Thanks again.

Default It's finished more or less

The side exhaust plan is causing me problems so you don't see it here but other wise it's as good as done. I still have some playing around do with paint because it's not flawless in several places but I'll get there.
