Default Upper arm

Hello,

I have CPP tubular arms to fit on my 72 Skylark, but i was wondering if the "Guldstrand mod" was possible on a A-body and if it's still necessary with the tubular arms?? The car will not be a racing beast, just a pleasant car to drive fast....
The springs are Eibach and shocks Koni.
Spindles are stock.
Suspensions are not easy to tune , so i could perhaps leave it like that...
What do you think??

I also though about AFX tall spindles but i have ordered my brakes (BAER Track 13") for use with the stock spindles and i don't know if the AFX spindles can be used with the BAER brakes and the CPP tubular arms?

Thanks
David

the tall spindles are in effect a gulstrand mod, done the right way... they adress the cambercurve by raising the upper balljoint and retain the stock suspension mount... so gulstrand.. not needed!

the bear track 9 brakes (IIRC) are PBM calipers, same as stock C-5 corvette and should bolt right up, with no need for brackets (so you can sell those to a needy hotrodder, or pro-tourer ..)

good to see more europeans here by the way

Problem is that with the AFX spindles the car will be too low as they drop the car 1 inch...and i already have Eibach springs....

and if i use B body spindles i don't think my brakes will fit!?

one of the guys at ATS had the same problem and solved it by running a 1 inch polyurethane spacer to raise the car.... the AFX spindle gives worlds better handling so installing a b-body spindle in their place would be dumb...

Default spindles

Thanks Deuce for all the info but my brakes won't totally fit....
i find this on ATS website:
"I have a Baer racing track kit on my car now. Will it fit on the AFX spindles?
No. Most Baer Racing Track kits are based of off the C4 Corvette PBR brakes. The mounting bracket of the caliper will not match up with the forged bracket of the AFX spindle, plus the rotor offset is too great to work with the C5 Corvette brake design. We recommend selling of the Baer kit hanging on the factory spindle as a complete unit to help offset the cost of a new C5 Corvette braking system.
"

i will try to find an issue... i think i just have to replace the discs by C5 discs...i'm gonna ask ATS.....

i stand corrected! i bought my c5 brakes for the AFX spindles i installed on my malibu from touring classics and the whole setup was arround 750 if my memort serves me correctly... and a complete Z06 setup with 14 inch front brakes and 6 piston corvette calipers is about 1600 dollars, front and rear... and they bolt right up to the AFX spindles.... just somthing to considder

love your car by the way!

If want to have AFX spindles i have to buy C5 discs and calipers, cause my Track won't fit....problem is that i will never manage to sale my Baer brakes to someone here in Europe to finance the C5 stuff.
So i think i'm gonna leave the stock spindles with the CPP tubular arms and Track brakes.

Thanks for the compliment, it seems that you have nice cars too!

Tall Balljoints from www.scandc.com will correct the camber curve while retaining the stock spindles (which means you can keep your brakes). They will lower the car ~1/2" however.

They (or any "tall" spindle) may not work with the CPP A-arms though, as those arms have the balljoint plate mounted at an angle for stock height spindles, which unfortunately won't work if you have corrected the camber curve as the balljoint may reach its pivot limits before the lower bumpstops hit.

Also, Guldstrand mod is not possible on an A-body frame.

Macbuick,we run into people with this problem all the time. That`s why I designed the StreetComp Stage 2-Plus. http://www.scandc.com/suspensions.htm#streetcomp2plus
Use your stock spindles and Track brakes and get nearly the geometry of the AFX tall spindles. It`ll lower the car about 3/4". If that`s too much for you we have thicker urethane upper spring seats that will give you back about 5/8" of that for a total drop of about 1/8" (might as well say nothing at all). You will have to change the CPP upper A arms but can retain and use the lower ones. Once installed and aligned there`s no additional maintenance of adjusting to do just drive it and enjoy. Mark SC&C
