Hot Rod Mag. - What does everyone think of Street Cup?

In the latest issue of Hot Rod it seems they have coined another build style which seems to me to be a variation on the G-Machine movement. I really like that the #72 '69 Torino the guy built will be driven on the street and the track.

What do you all think about that? What are your thoughts on this build style? Attached below is the hyperlink to the article:

I remember HotRod pushing that style years ago. It's cool, something different I guess. The only problem is finding a track to race them at.

Just like waiting for the Collonade (sp?) cars to come into their own. I still want a 73 Cutlass supreme.

i think its pretty cool. i always (incorrectly i guess) called those cars "trans-am style". either way, they have a lot of character.

I've heard very successful man say a number of times that

That's also how you get in magazines.

i really like this style!!! hope it catches on, almost like a forerunner to the protouring style, that chevelle looks awesome, even if they never get to see a track they would still look cool on the street.

I always liked the NASCAR inspired "street cup" style. I would like to build either a 64 Ford or 80's Monte SS that way..

That's the thing that appeals to me regarding street cup themed cars. How do you add all of this cool aftermarket suspension and engine technology, yet wrap it in a package that looks old and cool.

Period correct looking is one thing, but period correct with the modern upgrades is the challenge! I want the car to cause people to have to look closer to see what is really there...

I think they look like loads of fun. There is always something special seeing the older 55-75 model cars dressed like the race cars of the day. I have lots of memories as a kid watching these types of cars run.

I'm not sure I would have the same passion for cars as I do now, if I had grown up watching the NASCAR of today. They have evolved themselves away from the normal guy, whereas, these older car were something someone could actually relate to, especially the "Super Bird" and, "Daytona".

I remember seeing those going the road and as a kid, Who wouldn't want to drive a real Race Car on the Street?

Personally, I think it would be very cool to see a segment of the, "Pro Touring", crowd get into these types of builds.

These are some of the types of cars I was also wanting to see on the other thread I posted regarding, "Race Cars", on the Street.

Who else thinks these would be a blast to cruise around town in. It's not like nobody notices a great PT car anyway. You might as well give them something they will definitely remember.
