Default Corvette C4 I-beam material

Hi,
To get the ride height I am looking for I might need to have the I-beam/batwing on my Dana44 corvette C4 rearend shortened.
I talked to a welder today and he said that it shouldnt be a problem if he knew what kind of aluminum it was (he told me some different numbers).

Anyone know?

Did you install you IRS with a kit like from Wayne Due ? I've been looking for a kit for my 67' Camaro !

Could I get pics of your setup(rear IRS) ?

I read somewhere that they are 6010 but I can't find it now. I know the rear arms are. I'll keep looking.

I did narrow the frame and made the brackets myself but I'm unfamiliar with how to do it on a Camaro since it has no frame, anyhow I'd do a search as there are some Camaros around with this setup.

Default Whole C4 needs narrowed.

I'm kind of jumping in here.....new to the site....didnt want to lose this thread. I too, think I need to narrow the batwing on my C4 IRS. I'm dropping this into a 36 Chevrolet Truck. I'll drop a couple links to my build at the bottom. I figured I'd go where I could get the information I need. I've never dealt with IRS on a streetrod so this is new for me and any help I can get would be greatly appreciated. I'll search this site better tonight. Dont mean to high-jack this thread but I what I'm needing falls similar to what was asked. Great to be here! Thanks.

Question 1: From the first picture....how much suspension travel do I need to allow for. I have to narrow each side approximately 4.5 inches. that will place the hubs underneath the batwing. To me, it doesnt look like there would be much room for suspension travel. I assume I too will need to narrow the batwing. Does anyone make a narrower alternative to having it welded and if not...I'll keep my eye on this thread to find out about narrowing the one I have.

Question 2: Obviously by the picture, I just have the rearend mocked up (not even mocked up...just placed), I can tell the batwing needs to be much higher than it is. What sort of alignment do I need for the half shafts? I was told a slight angle down but got no definite answer about what the maximum allowable angle was. I'll be running 27" tires, so the hub center will be 13.5 inches from the ground. I would assume the pinion (if on the same plane as the outputs for the halfshafts) would need to be at least 14" from the ground. The output shaft on the transmission is at 12 1/4" from the ground (and can't be raised any higher) which is going to give me approximately 2.8 degrees of driveshaft angle on a 36" driveshaft, which is okay (the driveshaft will be angled up to the rear instead of the typical downward angle on most vehicles). Do you guys think I can get away with say......15" at the pinion...or 16"? That would give me more suspension travel and allow the hubs pleaty of room before they bottom out on the batwing. I really do appreciate any time you guys spend. You guys have some real slick rides!

Default C4 IRS cover spacer?

I have another idea Tiger. Maybe. How about fabricating a spacer 1" wide between the differential and the cover to move the differential cover back 1", which in turn would move the batwing mounts back 1" as well as the toe links. This should allow the rearend to be narrowed up to 3" each side with-out hogging out too much of the hub. I'm concidering this. The rear surface under the differential cover is flat. Anyone's thoughts?

Anyone know much we need to allow for suspension travel? Approximately?
