Default Car Craft Real Street Eliminator - This Weekend - Saint Paul Minnesota

THE CAR CRAFT REAL STREET ELIMINATOR XV
Real Street Eliminator is back and so is your chance to show off your car's braking, handling, and horsepower-generating abilities against the best cars in the nation at the Car Craft Summer Nationals.

The editors of Car Craft magazine will select six cars from two specific classes and two standbys to compete at the nationals. If you are selected, you will receive an invitation to the Car Craft Summer Nationals Real Street Eliminator, a special Real Street Eliminator windshield banner, and a chance to win a Car Craft RSE winner's jacket, and a spot for your car in Car Craft magazine.

The Contest: Each vehicle will compete in the Car Craft Launch Box, the QA1 autocross course, and the Mobil 1 dyno competition where each vehicle will be tested for maximum horsepower on the chassis dyno. To be eligible for the RSE crown, you must compete in all three events.

Points: The Top Three finishers in any one class will receive 10-30 points for their respective positions using the best time, distance, or horsepower number depending on the event. The car with the most points out of 90 wins the Real Street Eliminator for each class. Cars finishing out of the Top Three will receive zero points. DNF and DNS entries will receive 0 points. If there is a tie, the car with the most HP on the dyno wins. DNF or DNS on the dyno count as zero hp.

Rules: All cars must adhere to the rules and regulations set by the autocross sanctioning body (SCCA) and the Mobil One dyno contest. Exceptions to the rules are as follows:
-No diesel fuels
-Racing gasoline is permitted
-Each participant must display the RSE participant windshield banner
-Rear wheel drive passenger cars only

Class 1: '55-'81 American two-wheel-drive vehicles (includes '83 Corvette)
Class 2: '82-and-newer American two-wheel-drive vehicles
Class 3: Manufactures' class

To enter: Click the link below to register then submit some general information about yourself, a photo of your car, and why you want to compete in the RSE contest and email it to us at [email protected]. Car Craft editors will handpick the list and personally invite you to compete at the Car Craft Summer Nationals in St Paul Minnesota, July 17-19, 2009. Deadline for entries is June, 27, 2009. Schedules and event details will be e-mailed to selected participants and alternates before the date of the contest. Entry fee is $50 and is payable upon selection from editors to compete. This fee is in addition to registering for Car Craft Summer Nationals $45 if pre-registering.

REGISTRATION FOR RSE 2009 HAS ENDED

Manufacturer's Shootout
Last year, we denied entry to some seriously awesome and competitive vehicles that were owned by parts manufacturers and professional car builders. We believed that allowing these cars to compete against reader-built vehicles was not in the spirit of the RSE. This year we have created a special class to both include the owners of these vehicles and to put the vehicles' performance capabilities on display. To enter you must manufacture parts or build complete vehicles or vehicle kits for sale. The Car Craft staff will have the final say on the placement of vehicles in each class.

Fell down on coverage of the RSE event today. Do have some details though.

A friend of mine, Keith Anderson, is competing in the event. His black, pro-touring, 1970 El Camino was featured here on Lateral-G a few years ago. Keith now owns a 2009 Viper GTS. His stats are noted below off the top of my head. More to follow tomorrow.

Keith Andersen - 2009 Viper GTS
Dyno - 577 Horsepower
Autocross - 12.42 Seconds

Keith Anderson lent me his HD camcorder today. Got lot's of video. May take a couple days to get access to the media. Got some pics and video with my camera which I'll post shortly.

Keith's best time was 11.180. The race announcer joked that he put more miles in on the autocross course than he did driving to the event. Spotted a cool looking Pontiac from a distance that looked like a vintage stock car. As I was taking pics, I noticed Jeff Scwartz name on the side. I asked the driver if I could get some interior shots and soon realized it was Jeff. Car Craft had invited the owner to participate but he could not make it so Jeff brought the car himself. Funny thing, Fred Kappus had been talking about Jeff's race chassis for A-Bodies the day prior. When I mentioned Fred's name, Jeff said to say hello. Some of the Car Craft guys running the event we're commenting on how great a guy Jeff was. I think the stop box was a little new for everyone as Jeff appeared to be experimenting with the best way to master it.

I'm tired from running all day so if I'm jabbering nonsense let me know.

SAMPLE OF COMPETITORS:
Keith Anderson - 2009 Viper
Randy Johnson - 66 Chevelle
Air Ride Technologies - 66 Chevelle
Jeff Schwartz - 68 GTO "Temptress"

Pictures and video to follow...
