Default Vent tube on gas tank question

I was wondering if it is okay to use a one way check valve on my gas tank work as a vent tube. I would like to put the check valve in the tank and have a small "filter" sticking out of the top of the tank so no dirt can get in the tank. Wasn't sure if this would be okay and thought i would ask. Trying to eliminate clutter and make things look simple. Thanks alot and any comments would be much appreciated.
