Default Painting Vintage Wheel Works V45

I am looking for opinions on how to paint my V45s. My painter said we might not even have to prime them since they are a rough cast finish in the centers. What do you guys think? I'm painting the centers gold to match my hurst olds. Would you do high gloss or low gloss clear? Also what's the best polish for the polished lips? Thanks a lot!

Yeah,I would say just clean them well with a good wheel cleaner to rid them of brake dust (if they've been used) and then mask, primer and paint.
Low-gloss would look best,IMHO.
I like Mother's polish for aluminum but there is a whole host of excellent products on the market.

I couldn't agree more. I've also used dupli-color wheel paint (spray bomb) and had great success with it.

I have the rear wheels taped off and ready to be sprayed. I ran out of the green 3M tape so i'll have to finish the fronts tomorrow. Might have them painted yet this weekend!

Same here.. be sure to use a fine line paint tape for the first pass.. then you can use the cheaper blue low-stick tape.

Like this:

Power is better but the rattlecans cost me $20 and powder would have been around $400 due to the masking involved.

Before the rattle can:

After the rattle can:
