Default HELP Steering Parts

Guys,

I have a 1971 Nova. The end of the steering column is basically a round plate. On this plate you normally mount the steering coupler, which has an inner diameter of 0,787 inch. I think it is 36 splines.

But since my steering is not orginal I have the problem of connecting things.

I have a Quick Ratio Steering Rack which came with the Wayne Due Chassis subframe. Lock to Lock is about 2.2 revs, it is a powersteering. I would identify this as a Mustang steering rack from the look.

Now Bary from flaming River said there should be a 3/4 -36 on the steering rack. I measure 0,728" inch outer diameter, thats not exactly 3/4".

I do understand i could put a U-coupler on the mustang rack, then a shaft, but what will i put then ? how does the connection to my steering coloumn look like ?

Would I put a short piece of shaft into the original coupler and put a u-joint exactly in front of it ? What would be the right shaft if I do so ? 13/16" ? That is the closest to 0,787".

If anyone knows please advise.

.

Let me add this :

I found an adapter, but nowhere in stock ... can anyone help ?

This round adapter would make my endplate to a male splined end .... so i could put a u-joint.

thanks for the info.

wow, killer, the website rocks ... niice.

i just ordered the EZ fit shaft from flaming river with 2 u-joints, 3/4"-36 on each end, but changed it now to 3/4-36 and 1-48.

i was talking to my friend who has a machine shop here in germany and we planned to make the adpater ourselves, but that was before you guys told me it is available ... even summit has it and it is even cheap ... why couldnt flaming river tell me about unisteer ?? i showed them the pic ... pffff .. they just said we dont have it.

Anyways, killer I wrote you a message.

Thanks for your inputs.
