Default Remove Rust Pattern

Hi guys,

Chemical stripped my hood yesterday. It had been primered 20 years ago - then placed in a storage bin in Florida. Rust has come through the primer to the surface - and there was also rust 'trails' under the otherwise good looking primer. Once I removed all the paint and rust - there is a remaining rust pattern or discoloration in the clean metal. I've sanded the entire hood in 80 grit and the patterns persist. Do I need to continue sanding (or media blast) to remove those patterns to get to a completely shinny appearance ? Or will a metalprep wash be fine ?

Thanks !!

Jim

Jim get it all clean before you put primer on there. Doesn't matter how you get it off just make sure there isn't any trace of rust!

Thanks Jeff !

Doesn't look like there is any rust remaining - just a stain down into the base metal. But I'm gonna remove the stains and metal prep it before I shoot the primer.

Thx !

Jim
