Default HVLP spray gun air pressure question

When the spec sheet says to use 10 PSI at the cap, what would that be on the gauge where the air line connects to the gun? I was told about 30, but want to make sure that's right before I spray tomorrow. Thanks.

Pull the trigger on the gun half way and look at the gauge. When you see 10psi your good. BUT you might want to play with it a bit. Start with some test panels and just play around.

10 psi at the cap is much different then 10 psi inlet pressure, there is a special cap you can buy to check this but its expensive and not needed. my primer gun is a hvlp which needs 10 psi at the cap and it likes 16-18 psi inlet on a full fan pattern. when you set fluid volume pull trigger and adjust till trigger hits handle, then push it back a turn or so

10 psi at the cap is just a starting point.. on the fluid adjustment unscrew it all the way then squeeze the trigger and hold it. screw the fluid in until you feel it hit the trigger. then turn it about 1/2 a turn more.. this will give you the most fluid..you really want to adjust the pressure so that you have nice atomization of fluids. find a test panel and adjust your gun from there. you dont want the paint sprayin out in specs and you dont want it drying before it hits the panel. id start at little specs and add pressure till they go away. then adjust your fan to where its a nice solid pattern about 8-10" tall about 8-10" away from the gun. retest your pressure.. every paints viscosity is different so 10psi at the cap is just too much of a broad statement. i adjust my gun everyday..
