90* inverted flare fittings - Lateral-g Forums

I'm having a hard time with locating these parts. they may not even exist honestly. What I am trying to do is have a 90* invetered flare fitting coming out of the ports on my steering box. I can't bend the steel lines tight enough for my liking and I'd prefer to not just use hose as I have to go all the way over to the passenger side of the car. I'd much rather run hardline under the engine.

The downside and ultimately what I think will kill my idea is that the one fitting is 11/16-18 and normal inverted flare for a 3/8 tube is 5/8-18. Anyway, if anyone has some suggestions on a source for the fittings. I would appreciate it. I have tried Earl's, Russel, and McMaster as well as Google.

Or if anyone has a better idea for how I could run my lines at basically a 90* out of the top of the steering box so that I can keep the lines low as I go over to the engine and down under it, that would be great too.

I'm no plumber.... Mark at Bent Fab is the man for that....

But -- if you're doing a R&P - you can get the fittings that go in the rack - and end with -6 male... but they're Straight - but was thinking from there you could do a 90* female/male -6 to make your 90* - and go from there to hardliine...

Have you tried the fittings list at Pure Choice Motorsports? Some websites are way easier to navigate and find what you need.

The other thing I was thinking - but don't think I've ever seen it used if even possible - would be a banjo fitting....

Personally -- I'm a big believer in "the fewer fittings the fewer issues" kind of guy...

One last thought -- try shopping at the local HYDRAULIC hose store -- their 37* (AN in our world) go by "JIC".... and they use lots of swiveling stuff... so maybe you could come up with a fix.

Greg, it's a factory GM steering box. The ratio is quick since the car is a WS6 model but aside from that, it's the typical steering box that GM used for decades.

Also, to be clear and I think you guys understood me, I need to make a hard bend right out of the steering box. That's what I meant by 90* inverted flare.

Anyway, would a banjo fitting flow enough fluid for the system to work? I didn't think they could flow enough fluid. After all, the lines at 3/8" feed and return. Banjos would look sweet and I can clock them anyway I want. They also have SAE or AN fitting ends. I have the mastercool flaring kit and I can do AN and JIC so no worries on hooking up to the banjos if they flowed enough.

Trey - check out that site I linked up - Pure Choice Motorsports - they have a section on steering fittings - pump and or boxes - and they have banjos and other fittings for them.

As far as the flow goes - I would think this is not an issue if they're selling fittings for this purpose...?

There alot of 11/16-18 to 3/8 (AN-6) straight fittings available, its a common fitting for the steering.. I would use one of them then just go with a JIC hard line 90* fitting from that. JR

don't know if you have a NAPA by you but they have a hose and fitting book thats full of AN fittings that i have never seen before. the only down side is they are gold but you can paint them. they are steel fittings.

I did check them out and I'd hope they wouldn't be selling them if they couldn't flow well enough. I'd rather know instead of trust. It's the engineer in me. I like knowing how something works not just what works. Do you know who sells their stuff so I can look up a price? It appears they only sell through dealers and I only saw three listed on their page. Thanks Greg

My local NAPA place shouldn't have let the guy I talked to answer the phone. He had no clue about hard line fittings. That's not a problem honestly. I don't expect everyone at a business to know how to do everything in the business. However, he talked to me as if I was a dumbass and didn't know what I was talking about while I was holding the parts in my hands. That just ticks me off. So no business for them.

I've got a couple other hydraulic places around me that I could check into. I'm just really busy trying to finish school and take care of my job interview that I don't have time to see them during business hours. I'd rather research the issues first on my own.

I know that feeling. Went into a (insert BIG hydraulic manufacturer name) shop near me and asked for copper or aluminum crush washers for a 10mm fuel pump fitting only to be told the fitting I had in my hand was 1/8" NPT. It was clearly not tapered. The pitch did not match pipe thread. It fit perfectly into the 10mm straight threaded electric walbro pump I was installing. I finally gave up trying to convince the person helping me that I knew what I had and left. They had 3/8 washers that were OK in diameter, but too thin. It was the manager was helping me.
