2011 Ford Coyote 5.0L Crate Motor in a 67 Mustang

Hello all,

This past few days have been doing some reading and contemplating...

As some of you may or may not know, I'm completely re-doing my 67 Fastback Mustang into a one-off pro-touring car - that one day I will hopefully be able to take to Sema.

Have done some research on the new 5.0L crate motor and have some q's, that hopefully some of you engine swap experts can chime in on.

I already have a great Keith Craft Crate motor (408cubic inch 540hp, 550 torque carbureted motor) but I want to modernize it with some programmable fuel injection and management, as well as dress it up a bit with some Billet Specialties Pulleys. After some thought the last couple days it seems as though I'm going to be putting another 10-12k into the motor to do just that. For the same amount of money I could just about completely pay for a new 5.0L crate motor and put on a 2.3l Supercharger and have OEM quality and reliability?

Option B

Get a 2011 5.0L crate motor and strap on an aftermarket twin screw supercharger make 600hp and have all the tuning, calibrating sorted out already - not to mention go thru emissions with no problems.

Things to consider:

1) Need to change front suspension to Mustang 2 style to eliminate shock towers and create more room for the mod motor
a) already have a complete air ride technologies front suspension with tubular upper and lower control arms, muscle bar sway bar and internal e3 ride height sensors, power rack and pinion setup etc
b) After some test miles on another car with the air ride - really not impressed with the inconsistent ride heights achieved, even after the addition of the e3 setup and the internal ride height sensors

2) Go with a TCI Front suspension - eliminate shock towers, and build the ride height into the car - eliminate air ride out of the equation altogether.
a) The new 5.0L doesn't have a ps pump and the newer mustangs use electric power steering. Would need to fab a flaming river electric power steering setup onto my flaming river column and then run some kind of manual rack and pinion? Not sure if TCI Offers this. Not sure if anyone has tried the New Flamming River Electric Steering system?

3) Would the TCI Front suspension setup be compatible with my already purchased Baer Brakes Pro Plus 6 14" Brakes (mounted to factory 67 drum brake spindles)

4) Get a Ford Racing Bellhousing to adapt the 5.0 to the TKO600 tranny - also a clutch assembly from Ford Racing.

5) Get a Ford Racing Wiring/PCM Harness to wire the motor

6) I know guys have put the 4.6's in their cars but not sure if anyone has done a 5.0 yet - are the mounting dimensions the same?

7) What kind of starter would the new mod 5.0 use?

8) I would think I could make the 5.0 work with my be cool radiator and a/c module

9) Would the vintage air setup I'm planning on running be compatible with the ford a/c compressor? If so what about lines/fittings?

10) The motor comes with a manual transmission harness - would this be compatible with the tko 600 tranny, and how would one go about activating an aftermarket speedo ie Autometer electric

11) What about a fuel pump - what kind of fuel pump would I need to work with the motor? Would it have to be the exact pump out of a 2011 Mustang? And how would that work with a Rick's Custom Stainless Tank I plan on running?


I'm completely new to the whole electronics/modern engine world - but it is what I'm going after for my car just need some input and help along the way to get it done. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
