Default GoPro may have legit competition

The new Drift Innovation HD Ghost appears to address some of the shortfalls with GoPro and Contour engineering.

The specs that caught my attention were:
- Rotating lens, 300* range
- 170* 127* 90* field of view in 1080p
- Remote mic accessory
- 2" LCD screen
- Remote control

That thing looks nice, I was considering the GoPro. I think I may wait a bit and see how this piece works out. Accessories are reasonably priced too.

I have 5 GoPro's (every model from day one) all have audio shortfalls. They just release a firmware upgrade for the new Hero3 that appears to have resolved it's issues. My Hero2 has mechanical noise issues, appears the 3 was electronic.

This camera has potential IMO. Alan of Stilwell Performance (off-road motorcycle team) just received cameras from them to test, I'm looking forward to his reports.

GoPro's are exceptional at capturing image/video but audio is very important to motorsports (combustion powered) enthusiasts that don't want to listen to hard-rock audio tracks over-layed in the video. I wish I knew the reasons/challenges as to why GoPro hasn't put more energy into a remote mic accessory option.

I'll be paying close attention to this one...looks cool, thanks for posting.

GoPro is just killing it with their marketing.

Here's a video comparing GoPro3 Black, DriftHD Ghost, Contour+2, and Sony Action Cam.

(Sony wins IMO)

Sony definitely has the audio advantage.

Ghost audio was baaad.

To get "decent" audio all these cameras need a remote mic option to allow shielding from the wind. A water resistant not waterproof case and plugin for most applications equals user convenience and improved audio results.
