Default About my special week!

I have a 99 Chevy Tahoe and they are known for having trouble with the intake gaskets leaking, its a 2 part intake. Pain in the butt job most mechanics want 8-900 to change them. My friend has a mechanic who does nice work and is reasonably priced. He could do it Monday of this week. I bring the truck Monday oops holiday. Not a problem I leave it he puts it in the garage. They remove the offending gasket and they tune it replace some bad looking sensors and any bad hoses. They are careful cleaning the top of the motor before opening it up then wash all the parts before the get put back in. This truck has 68,000 original mile always taken care of sense I bought it with 4,500 mile on it.
They change oil fill the radiator charge the A/c back up and let it idle to make sure there's no air in the system. While its idling he hears a noise shuts it down checks fluids and everything looks ok. Re starts it no noise lets it idle goes for more coolant comes back the motor spun a bearing!
He calls me asks me to come down there's a problem no truck so I walk the 1.5 miles when I get there the kid (35) who worked on it is white as a ghost so ids the owner. I thought the mechanic was going to cry he felt so bad. I had a leak when I fill up with gas, so I figure he's going to say I need a new tank. nope that's the news I got. He pulled the filter cut it open clean as a whistle! drains the oil clean nothing in it. Now I 'm figuring this is going to hurt and ready to hear what its going to cost. The owner say doesn't know what happened neither do I so who get the blame? This kid (owner says He'll do all the work ,pay for the machine shop if I'll kick in for the bearings.
It was no ones fault and I told him as long as they weren't hurt or maimed it could be fixed. I think These guys are stand up guys and I'd still have them work on any of my vehicles. With everything else that has gone on with me this is a cake walk.
Just figured I'd share my week with my friends.

PS I haven't wrote anything this long and this fast so excuse any miss spells or typo's.

Great story Wayne, the only mechanic I use these days is a friend I've known since grade school, good/honest ones are hard to find. Sounds like yours went above and beyond..best of luck to you.

Yes it actually made it easier to hear seeing how much it bothered them that it happened while it was there. They made me feel bad for them.

We opened the motor up today and its not a bearing its a wrist pin almost seized. The bearings look pretty good. Only 68,000 on the truck. While its apart I'll polish the crank and put new main, rod, and cam bearings in it. The motor has always had 10 psi at idle since new, I never liked it that low so a new oil pump and timing chain will also go in. I'm going to check everything and replace as needed. Might as well strike while the iron's hot.
One of the guys that was there today right away lets do a 383 its all apart. I said Hell No I already go crazy with the car not the truck too! My wife is understanding but not that understanding!
