Default Anyone using MTI's manual belt tensioner?

Guys, I currently have the HD tensioner from Magnuson that I know some of you are using, but still hear of belt slippage over 12 pds of boost.

I've looked around, but can't find many reviews on the MTI setup yet. Anybody here using one by chance? I've got an 8 rib pulley setup from Innovators West.

Current setup

MTI's Tensioner

Thank you gents!

I've used one of these on a NA LS setup:

Cause is not due to belt tension - it's due to what you're asking an 8-rib belt to do.

12psig requires more power than you can feed through an 8-rib belt. Assuming that's a TVS 2300 rotor set (and not knowing your displacement and RPM) - you're asking for 100+ HP to be fed through 8-rib. Belt power transmission is dictated by contact area (rib count + belt wrap around pulleys) and tension. You'll never get enough tension to overcome the lack of contact area of 8-rib.

I've run many TVS 2300 blowers (GM, Magnusson, Harrop) and always needed 10+ rib (GM is 11) to feed that amount of power with minimal slip.

You can always go Gilmer belt drive - if you don't mind the noise.

Considering this is his other car, I don't think he'd mind a little noise.

Thanks DG. I guess I could go the Kevlar Belt route on the street car. Why didn't I think of that?

Have seen plenty of guys running 16 pds with 8 rid setups---it's more of a reliability issue for me. Belt wrap and type of belt all play a part--as well as total surface are of a 6, 8, 10 rib etc. Was hoping someone here may have had some experience with a Maggie 2300 and manual tensioner setups.

Will keep moving ahead.

Hope you and the family are well buddy. What Mikel's is saying makes sense to me. You can get away with anything for x amount of time.

Same here Brother! Hope we can see you guys next time we are out your way---would be great.

Agree with Mikel also. Still hoping to find someone that has some experience with the aforementioned manual belt tensioner. If not, then I'll just keep moving forward with something else on the motor/car.

Hope you will be back into the car thing at some point. Hope I get out of the car thing at some point.

Give me a call when you have your car all sorted out and you want to sell it really cheap.

Call me anytime you get out this way. It would be good to see you and the fam.
