Are you running a Tremec TKO-500, TKO-600, or T-56?
Are you running a Tremec T-56, TKO-500, or TKO-600 in your car? If so, which transmission did you go with and why?

T-56, traded my Muncie 4 speed straight across for it.

TKO 600, installled in my 69 Chevelle 12 years ago. Back then there was not any other 5 speeds that would work behind a 548 pump gas motor. I had a Doug Nash in my 32 roadster, but wanted an overdrive for the Chevelle.

I don't read many people listing two overdrive gears as a large factor in their decision making. Price, size, weight, Tq rating and smooth shifting tend to all come up in these discussions, but rarely the gap between 4th and OD.
Any thoughts? There might also be a "cool" factor to a 6-speed vs a 5 speed, right?
I'm currently in the middle of this thought process. My application is a 3200#car with +/- 340 rwtq, 3.73 rear, 25.6" tall tires and .59 or .64 OD.

I have a t56 in my 01 TA. I swapped one into my 89 TA. I'm working on swapping f-body t56s into my 69 Firebird and 68 Camaro.
I'm using them because they are stong and I was able to get them much cheaper than any aftermarket trans.
I have a close ratio t56 Magnum for my 67 Firebird.
I like the gear spread and OD ratios of the f-body t56. I thought it was a little odd that Tremec used the shorter ODs in the close ratio Magnum, and the tall ODs in the wide ratio Magnum when the GM t56s and TR6060s are the other way around.
I was hoping to buy a cheap Vette TR6060 and convert it into a Magnum, but it's basically not possible to get one cheap enough to be worth the effort. They are actually a reasonable price for a brand new 6 speed that can handle the power they do.
I have no desire for a 5 speed, but I'd consider a TKO-600 as an easy direct swap into a 4 speed car, if I didn't want to go to the trouble of swapping in a t56.

I purchased my 68 Camaro with a t56, but considering my engine is only pushing 520hp/505lbs, the tunnel cutting, and even with a 4.10 rear I rarely get to 6th gear in the hills (and traffic) around the Bay Area I would have been happy with a TKO-600.

T-56 in the blue car (magnum'ized). Only use 5 gears local, but I've done three Goodguys road tours and have used the snot outa sixth, 540 hp, 3:73's, and in sixth at 80, 23 mpg....but didn't tunnel (2nd gen f body) and may need too...I think I'm at 5* down now and need to come up?

T56 magnum because it was a good deal from the guy I bought my engine from . Having said that it's exactly what I would have chosen regardless. Reasons being .6 gears fun to shift and double overdrive to get some fuel mileage . Parts are available everywhere. Strong. Reliable.

T56 Magnum. The close ratio has the spread I want and will work well with the Double OD and a 3.90 rear axle here in Texas where the 70mph speed limit is common even in town and there is an 80mph speed limit on a few highways I frequent. I have owned several 68-70 Mopar muscle cars with the A-833 with the 2.66 first gear. The 1-4 ratios are almost the same as my beloved old A-833. Anything much lower ratio than that with a big block in my 3200lb car would be too short.
The transmission can handle my 600hp 440ci engine which has a 7500rpm redline. The synchros are supposed to be a step up in the T56 Magnum. I have driven 2 cars with OEM TR6060 transmissions, I like the way they shift.
The TKO 500 is not rated to handle my engine. The TKO 600 is close.
VSS output for my EFI controller is a definite plus and the mechanical speedo drive turns my "stock" refurbished 150mph speedo.
I was going to have to cut one way or another to fit it in, the size difference didn't play in at all. Bonus is that the shifter location was close enough I was able to use the factory 4 speed top plate on the factory console by relocating the console rearward about an inch or so. Looks almost like a factory 4 speed.

I went with a TKO 600 5spd behind my LS 427 (618 hp/580 tq). Only now that I am ready to go for its madden voyage it will not shift sitting or when the engine running. Any ideas?
Thanks
